What time do you get up to exercise? How much sleep do you get?

I don't exercise in the morning but I read yesterday that one should get at least 7 hours of sleep the night before a morning workout. If one doesn't, he/she probably won't lose very much since their body is tired.

When I get up early to exercise the time varies, could be as early as 5 but thats rare.... usually more like 6:30 or so. I make sure to get a lot of sleep, same as any other night, at least 8 hours. Its hard to get up sometimes but as long as you get enough sleep it can be done, you just have to get used to it...

I consider myself a morning exerciser, but as a slow-to-action, straight out of highschool student, I tend start my work out at about 10-11, and it'll go on till around lunch time.. 12-1/2

Although today as a first I did a 80min run outside at 7:30 in the morning... Figured I'd stop fighting my early rising habit.

Is making coffee and chasing 4 kids considered excercise if so 6am daily - I do one workout in the morning around 9:30 am and then my run and other workout after 8pm. I wish I could say I got 8hrs sleep but it is more like 6 or 7.

i used to get 8hrs sleep--before the puppy

now it's more like 6 hours of sleep.
up about 5am to take the dog for 35min walk.
often will do dvd upon return.

then 20-25min walk in evening after 8:30 with dog.

if i don't do the AM exercise, i am that much less likely to do it at all.
another option tho is after kids go to school, little one and i go to Y for workout then. but that really kills the whole morning.
before the puppy, i would often exercise at naptime and even at 4 before dinner prep, w/home dvd's.

now...i'm so worn out. i usually lie down during naptime. and altogether my workouts are shorter and arguably less effective.
that consistent lack of sleep is def having a negative impact on me.

i know others can handle it, but i'm not that person. kwim?

    hth--your kids are adorable!

I am a sleepaholic! I get around 10 hours during school but right now I'm out of school and have been sleeping between 12 and 14 hours! I sleep from midnightish to 10am with an afternoon nap around 2. I have been doing walks instead of exercise in waking hours. During the semester I usually catch a few evening classes at the gym. Man life is good during my 3 weeks b/t summer school and fall semester:bigsmile:

PS- I think I get it now. Someday I will have to choose between sleep and kids... That's going to be a close call

I try very hard not to wake to an alarm. I believe in waking when my body says it's ready to wake. So usually, I don't do early exercising. But, when the school year starts again, I may not be able to do this.

Well you're supposed to try for at least 7 hours of sleep regardless of when your work out is or how many you're doing. that's kind of the shorts amount of time to let the muscle fibers rebuild. I typically shoot for between 7 and 7 1/2 hours worth of sleep, anything more and I feel I like I wasted the day and anything less leaves me feeling almost too wiped to exercise, almost.
  • I work Thursdays-Sundays from 8-630. On the days I work, I get up at 5:15am and head over to the gym to get an hour workout in before work. On my days off, I'm usually up (on my own, no alarm) by 730-8 and I eat breakfast and usually head over to the gym around 9.
I feel like if I don't exercise early enough in the day, it gets swept under the rug and forgotten because I usually have so much other stuff to do.

I am a morning person so it works out well for me to work out first thing in the morning.

I decided to delegate the kids bedtime routine to my husband. I really communicated the importance of him being involved with them more on the daily basis since he works very long hours, it's pretty much the only time he gets with them during the week.

So I go straight to bed by 9p and get up at 5:30a, then I am out the door on my bike by 5:45a, I usually do 10 miles in 50 minutes and get home in time to stretch for about 20 minutes before I have to wake up the 10 yr old at 7a. The 16yr old is usually in the shower when I get home. Then I make them breakfast, get them off to school, I have breakfast by myself.

There are other benefits to working out in the morning - your metabolism is raised for the day, it's done and you don't have to worry about doing it later.

I don't think it is good for you to change the time you go to sleep and wake up and to oversleep. I would try and stay on a regular schedule no matter what is going on. Your body has a clock that you need to keep regulated. You will probably feel better, and have more energy if you can try to keep your sleep schedule regular but I am sure you are doing what you can.

On the days I don't have my girls at home, I exercise around 10.
The other days, I have a Mom & Tot's swim class at 9:30, then I'll exercise when the youngest takes her nap (around 11:30)

I go to bed at 10, but it takes me about 45 minutes to an 1h10m to fall asleep.
I'm up every night because my 3 year old STILL doesn't sleep her nights:explode:
I wake up at 6:30, because my youngest always wakes up at that time.

I am in bed (usually asleep) by no later than 9pm....I get up at 430am every morning during the week (it helps my BF has to get up for work then) and head to 'bootcamp" at the Y...weekends I generally sleep in til about 730 or 8 and maybe once a month I sleep til about 930 on saturday! It's funny cause none of my friends my age would EVER consider getting up that early so they call me granny all the time, but that's ok, they have learned NOT to call me passed 8pm!

I started adding to my workouts a few weeks ago doing treadmill in the morning and my regular workouts in the evening. I go to bed at 10p and get up at 5a. Gets me around 7 hrs sleep which seems to be a good number for me. Everyone has different needs. Before I started working out and eating better, I could easily sleep 10 hours and then needed caffeine to get through the day! Now my body doesn't need so much sleep and I do NO caffeine! So many benefits to adopting a healthy lifestyle!

I used to be a die-hard evening workout person, but have recently switched to mornings. My job allows me 3 hours during the week to work out, thanks to the Federal Military Technician Program.
I'm up at 5:30am at work by 6:30am. As far as sleep goes, I usually stay up till about 11pm, midnight at the latest. So I get on the average 5-6 hours of sleep during the week. I'll sleep in an extra hour or two on the weekend. No more than 7-8 hours of sleep.

I typically hit the gym Mon & Weds, thurs is my run day. Sometimes I switch off my run day with Mondays. Just depends how my recovery period. Friday is my day off, so I usually go to the gym in the afternoon. Weekends, just whenever I can slip it in. Typically the mornings, cause its just easier and cooler.
