Hey there everyone! I've been on here for quite some time and have been able to loose a decent amount of weight that I had gained from a knee surgery. During all that time my wonderful wife and I have been separated with her being active duty as well. I'm currently in Bahrain and am expecting her to come visit in about 2 months when she gets off her ship. There is the background now here's the issue. I want to really wow my wife and have been unable even through a good deal of exercise to really get that "that guys in incredible shape" look. Do any of you out there who have that kind of look think they could send me their routines or something? Or maybe add me and judge me when I eat poorly. I welcome the advice from pretty much anyone.

Assuming you're eating right, why not get a program like P90X or Insanity? They are both laid out for you and if you follow the program, you'll get results. Look for used copies on Ebay or Craigslist.

I wish that I could give a better reason than this but I've never cared much for video workouts. I tried p90x but it was averaging 90 minutes a day and that just isn't really feasible to schedule out with my schedule here in fifth fleet. Thank you though

I do a nike app workout, like having a personal trainer. Some are15, 30 and 45. It also has higher intensity levels. I also lift weights and run on occasion. It's great to start with.

I have signed up for the Spartan Race "WOD" or Workout of the Day... and a lot of it is based on cardio and body weight exercises. You might like it: www.spartanrace.com

But I also second the recommendation for the Nike Trainer app.

Hey that sounds good. I know those are iPhone compatible but can you do it without. I'm an android user. Lol:glasses:

You look pretty fit now, so I'm guessing you want to add some muscle? I'd say up your calories and focus on eating high in protien foods, then hit the major muscle groups hard!! You should eat 1.5 to 2g of protien/kilogram of body weight/day to add muscle.

Thanks for your service to the USA!!

Thank you so much. Do you know any high protein foods that aren't perishable? With Bahrain being a desert its hard to find a lot of fresh meats and cheeses that are affordable so I'm limited to boxes and cans for the most part. Thanks again for the advice.

Your body is pretty boss already. My other half is USN and he feels "skinny" because his bf% is so low due to strictly controlled diet...He still has great definition and makes me drool. It's hard to "bulk" and get bigger if you dont have 100% control over your food intake.

RE: non perishable protein: Tinned tuna?

It seems that's common in the navy we have small guys and really big boys but not a lot in the middle. Lol. I've been going for tuna, beef jerky, and protein shakes as my main source of protein but it does get a little boring. I can't wait to get back stateside but that's not until November.

hmmm I have never been faced with this problem, I guess the first thing that comes to mind is beans, nuts, legumes, eggs (if available). I was a personal trainer years ago and the big thing was to try and get as much protien as you can from natural sources and use protien shakes to suppliment any deficit. Maybe you should start using or using more protien powder. Nitro-Tech Hardcore works pretty good!

I have P90X and was doing it over and over again, just love it. It brings great results. I might be addicted to it lol. I will have to give me something else as well, just for even bigger range of fitness levels

Thanks for all the advice everyone! Has anyone over been faced with this sort of issue with food. What I have at my disposal is a microwave and a very small fridge. So the vast majority of my food has to be something that can be fixed in microwave or eaten raw. I would go into town more often but even a small lunch of a quarter chicken and vegetables runs for about 5.6 bahraini dinars, which is 14.82 use. So its not really feasible to sustain myself this way. Most days I'm ending up with negative calories for the day......

What you are wanting to do is nice. Your wife will be so happy to see you, she won't really care what you look like! Besides, based on your photo, you are already looking good.

stronglifts is a lifting program that revolves around 5 exercises. You do 3 each work out 3Xs a week. I did the split body routine for years with little results and finally switched to this and it is an awesome program. Here is the workout:

    Workout A
    Squats
    Bench Press
    Barbell Rows

    Workout B
    Squats
    Overhead Press
    Deadlift

You do 5 sets of 5 reps for each exercise, except deadlift which you only do 1 set of 5 reps. You add 5 lbs to your workout weight every time you go. Go to stronglifts.com and it explains it all in detail. I know doing squats 3Xs a week can be intimidating but you get a rest day between each workout. **** isolations!

Are you trying to bulk up? From your picture I cannot see why you would want to lose weight as you are already lean without being skinny at all in your picture.

I don't really think its weight I want to lose I just want to have the look like how the real fitness guys look. I know that sounds stupid. I don't mean like the guys from the 300 movie or anything, but I do mean more like the guys that men's health use. They aren't ever huge or rediculous look.

Gold spurs I really appreciate it. I've never heard of this. Im always willing to try new workout routines. I just started some of the trx stuff on base on the weekends.

Not a problem. I know the mess halls downrange aren't too great for those trying to gain lean muscle. If your PX/BX doesn't have a GNC you could always just order some supplements to give your body the stuff the DFAC doesn't provide.

I suggest you cut back on the cardio/non-weight exercise if you can (not sure if your activity level is due to mandatory exercises or not) - based on your diaay you look like you are at too much of a deficit to build muscle. The stronglifts program is a good idea - http://stronglifts.com/ as Goldspurs suggested.

Wanting to look like fitness guys does not sound stupid, I want to look like the fitness gals.

    Some non-perishable suggestions:
    - nuts & seeds (like pumpkin and sunflower)
    - canned or sachets of tuna (the vacuum packed pouches are more transportable)
    - jerky (watch the sodium though)
    - protein bars

    - will add if I think of more

I wish I could cut back on cardio but it is work related. I am the fitness leader at my command so I have to run and do cardio to help all the people who fail their physicals loose weight. I'm really good at helping people loose weight, but I cant get myself where I want to be.

I thought it might be. In summary, I would suggest the stronglift program - it is very efficient as it uses heavy weights and low reps = less time in the gym. Get your calories up as much as possible - hopefully there are some good suggestions here you can use. Good luck - but if my husband's body looked like yours, I really would not complain - so while it is really nice you want to do this for your wife, I am sure she thinks you are a hottie anyway:tongue:
