I don't have any bought suggestions, but whenever I cook something like a lasagne, or a stew or curry I always make sure I have a at least a couple of extra portions, for either later in the week, or they go in the freezer. This week, I'm having 2 meals from the freezer that I know are cooked with fresh produce and no additives.

Like Lean Cuisine and stuff? Frozen dinners have high sodium content and are processed. Not so good. But if you mean like, you cooking the day before and having it last the week...I like to make ground turkey chili. It's so tasty, healthy, and lasts for like the whole week. :D

What kind of suggestions? Like which ones are good? I prefer the Healthy Choice Steamers and Lean Cuisine. The problem is finding ones that have good flavor and are filling (none I've found are filling enough to keep you full for very long!).

My Faves for Lean Cuisine: Sweet & Sour Chicken, the enchilada one, there's a really good spanish rice one, and the ravoili.

Like KNarrainen said if you cook extra on the weekend on purpose you can save it for later in the week.

My Go-To lunch is a single serve cup of tuna w/some pickle slices and possibly some crackers or melba toast. You can add mustard if you don't like plain tuna. Then have either one of the single cups of soup (okay they are really 2 servings but who eats only 1/2 a soup that's clearly made for 1?!) or you could do a salad.

I like to make and freeze soups/stews/chilis. black bean soup, lentil soup, turkey chili, white chili, regular chili - all freeze amazingly well. Add salad/veggies (fresh or frozen) and you have a meal.

I also sometimes make a big batch of crockpot chicken and freeze that with some of the "sauce" it creates (from salsa or salad dressing). That works well too.

Cederlane burritos - %20 sodium per burrito, organic and vegetarian (I think they might be vegan too). 260 calories
Celeste pizzas for one - The deluxe version has %30 sodium. 340 or so calories. Vegetarian pizza might have less. I am not sure.

Takes some extra effort but every 2 weeks I buy about 7lbs of chicken breast and 3 lbs of top sirloin. Then I cut it up into 1,2,4 oz chunks. I then proceed to bbq it all over a charcoal grill with a tiny bit of seasoning and then freeze it. Every night I take a few pieces out and it is good to go the next day. There is usually scraps left over since I weigh everything and try to get those 1/2/4 oz pieces. Those go into multiple zip loc bags and I use them for other dishes during the week.

Skinnytaste.com Salisbury steak freezes well. In the comments for the recipes some usually lets us know how the recipe freezes. :-)

This. I usually will make casserole, stew, chicken and veggies, or pot roast in my slow cooker, and make enough to have several extra portions that I freeze and take with me later in the week. Really, just about anything you can cook, you can freeze and reheat later.

Trader Joe's has some stuff that isn't too terrible (the fewer ingredients, the better). Here's a Yelp thread on the topic that might have some useful tips: http://www.yelp.com/topic/redwood-city-best-frozen-foods-healthy-if-possible .

I also saw they have a new Top Chef Healthy Choice. That looked interesting!

I like Amy's especially the Palaak Paneer and their lasagnes. I try to avoid frozen meals but it's better than ending up with a Big Mac in your mouth...

I love Healthy Choice, especially the cafe steamers. Lean Cuisine is second choice. I hate smart ones but will but them if they are on sale. They are actually better than anything I would cook for myself, since I don't actually cook.

Costco hormone free rotisserie chicken for $5. ea. I cut them up in sections, bone in, freeze in ziploc bags and thaw in microwave for burritos, BBQ chicken sandwiches, tacos, or just with steamed veggies and a microwaved sweet potato. Tastes much better than processed. Also their Kirkland frozen turkey patties are great for turkey burgers, can be cooked ahead of time and reheated. Freeze loaves of bread and thaw one slice at a time. I'm a very lazy cook, so if it takes more than 5 min. I don't do it. Lean Cuisine has a decent frozen pizza, and their butternut squash ravioli is pretty good sometimes. I have yet to taste a frozen dinner with meat that tastes anywhere near what they claim it is.

i just had a lean cuisine Chicken club panini! it was delicious. just microwave for 3 min!!
  • I only really enjoy eating the healthy choice steamers and the amys organic meals. I think frozen meals can be helpful when learning about portion sizes, but I tend to avoid them due to all of the sodium, artifical ingredients, and the PIRCE. I find it much cheaper and satisfying to buy some chicken breast, fish, or turkey meat. I cook it all up with some frozen vegetables and maybe some brown rice and portion it into containers. This easily stores in the fridge and you can take it anywhere! I also have a very large insulated lunch box that i keep filled with water, fruit, yogurt, and nuts and I take it almost everywhere! In the long run its much cheaper and healthier to buy large quantaties of fresh foods. Especially meats and vegetable that you can freeze as long as you need.
