Really Don't Care?

One of the biggest 'sporting' events on the calender it only seems fitting to post about it... it's also the one time of the year you can gamble on wrestling (I find)

So what you doing for it? What are you looking forward to the most?

I unfourtenetly work nights so will be at work when it's on, however a few of us at work have ordered it at mine anyways so we're going to go watch it after work (and gym) and all of us will be avoiding the net like champions as a result (with phones in airplane mode) also gambled on it to try and reignite that childhood passion of mine (it works, it really does, you start yelling at the tv like nobodies business)

Might watch the repeat - hadn't realised The Rock had come back again. Haven't really followed it since my teens, but I was fanatical when I was younger. Still admire the fitness of them all and the risks they will take to create the spectacle.

My fiancé has plans to see it tonight with one group of friends, and tomorrow night with another. I'm taking him out in a few hours, and hopefully when I get home I can relax for a while and then enjoy a proper sleep. I'm exhausted lately - I'm working an average 12 hours a day and barely sleeping because he's such a light sleeper and wakes me up. He's been getting up at 6am every morning, and it's meant I have to.

This may be the first night I've decided I LIKE wrestling, purely because I might get a few hours of good sleep.

    WWF is still on?
  • I am obsessed with wrestling to a fault. All I've been doing today is watching small independent shows that happened over WM weekend and I'm about to watch another before getting ready for Wrestlemania.

I'm rooting for Daniel Bryan. Other matches should be good, but he's all I actually care about.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! AJ, Shut up. YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

You people realize you watch fake TV shows and fake movies all the time and don't bat an eyelash about it, right? Wrestling is like a Bruce Lee martial arts movie, not professional football. Approach it like that and you might not have a heart attack when you see something that wasn't realistic. It still hurts like hell and they're on the road 200+ days out of the year. At least have some respect for that.

No, it hasn't been WWF in a decade.

Personally I haven't watched it since the days of Andre the Giant.

Yes I do, but I also dont pay $50.00 to watch those shows etc. on pay per view or call them" sporting events"
And no I dont respect them, especially since they are such a bad influence on our youth. Yeh a fake head slap hurts but not near as a bad as getting punched for real by a UFC fighter or getting drilled by a linebacker during an NFL game.

I haven't watched it consitently in years. I was a huge fan when The Rock hit it big. HHH, Austin, Undertaker, Kurt Angle. The Roster as huge and the interivews (espeically The Rock's) were as enertaining as the matches. I couldn't believe that it was as popular in college as it was in 1997-2000. Sadly, I hated the new breed, like Cena. Just can't stand him.
  • I'm not paying for the PPVs and I don't view it as a sporting event. Blame the OP. I call it what it actually is: pro wrestling.

It's not the slaps that hurt, it's taking several hundred back bumps a night, two hundred nights on the road a year that hurt. Also, you can't really fake a slap. Not unless you want it to be completely silent. There is real contact there.

The fact that you think it's a contest between those three about which hurt more shows just how much you're missing the point. Wrestling is supposed to be about athleticism, drama, and spectacle, not a demolition derby. I like football, MMA, and pro wrestling. All three hurt physically and all three should take measures to increase the safety for their athletes.

Bad parenting is a bad influence on a youth. Not wrestiling. And if about of dorks walking around the grass slapping a tiny ball with a stick every 20 minutes like in golf is a sport, then a choreographed fight between tow 300 lb men who have to run, flip, punch and lift eachother over their heads is a sport as well.

Rock, Taker, and Triple H are all wrestling in big, headline matches tonight.

They're not shoving Cena down people's throats as much as they used to, at least in my opinion. Even so, there are more wrestlers to root for in more prominent roles such as CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, etc. It's not just the John Cena Show anymore. You should give it a watch if you ever have the free time someday. It's hit and miss like always, but at least there's a little more variety, 'ya know?

Part of the reason for the popularity of wrestling during that period was due to sheer luck, the two biggest wrestlers of all time on the same show at the same time (Austin & Rock), and Mike Tyson at Wrestlemania 14 to bring the new mature brand of wrestling to the public's attention.

Funny, the same people I see wearing TapOut shirts today and call wrestling "that fake gay crap" are the same ones that used to have Austin 3:16 and DX shirts. Hypocrites.

I watch it with my kids. Some of the wrestlers are good role models and the story lines are funny. Not ordering Mania. We'll catch the re-caps tomorrow on raw. And I gotta admit, I enjoy the eye candy:blushing:

My husband and I order it every year. This year only 3 match sound good and entertaining to us, the rest are just stupid! I want to see Sheamus beat the **** out of Daniel Bryan, I excited for that match! CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho, worth watching! Randy Orton vs. Kane Singles match, should be good too. The celebrity diva tag match is just retarded, I think the Snooki match last year was too. they need to put the diva title on the line, or create diva tag belts, since they always putting them in tag competitions. I don't want to see triple H face the undertaker again, already been done. I could care less about Cena versus the Rock. Then the Cody Rhodes vs. The Big Show match, is just dumb and I hope Cody gets hospitalized. The Team Johny/Team Teddy is just stupid!!! I don't think the same person should run both shows anyways, Teddy has done well for years, they need to just leave him alone. Johnny I never liked him.

Needless to say we aren't buying it this year, cause 5 out of the 8 matches are just retarded, not worth it in our opinion

We invited a bunch of friends over and we will be watching it. I know it is a 'soap opera' for men, but it is still entertaining and a good excuse to have a get together (not that we need an excuse!) Hubby used to watch wrestling all the time, but Wrestlemania is one of the only times he watches it now. He went in Houston a few years back and even got to bring home his chair! :) The funny thing is, my students watch wrestling and love it, and they are impressed that I actually know who the wrestlers are!

Some friends from work and I get together every year to watch it. Not many of us actually follow the storylines too closely anymore, but it's still a great time.

Unfortunately our youth these days dont consider their parents to be hero's etc. but they do consider these steriod heads that run around acting like uneducated childish jerks ( most of them anyway) as being god like. And each and everyone of them would trade in their tights in a second if they could succeed at a real pro sport. After all many of them have tried and failed.

I wear Tap Out - one of the few brands that seems to shape their clothes to accomodate my shoulders :P I still respect the athletes, but the story writers aren't anywhere near as good as they were in the Steve Austin/Rock era. Occasionally load up an episode on youtube, but haven't watched it on TV recently.

    1. [Citation Needed]

    2. They've had a strict wellness policy for quite a few years now. Funnily enough, more football players and MMA fighters get busted for steroids than wrestlers these days.

    3. Not all wrestling is the same. There is classy and intelligent wrestling to be found even in WWE.

    4. No. Just no. You have no idea what you are talking about now. The number of former athletes are vastly outnumbered by ordinary people who got into the business because they were passionate fans. Not all former athletes were push overs, either (e.g. Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Shelton Benjamin, etc.)
I wear Tap Out - one of the few brands that seems to shape their clothes to accomodate my shoulders :P I still respect the athletes, but the story writers aren't anywhere near as good as they were in the Steve Austin/Rock era. Nothing wrong with the actual shirt (or even the brand that I'm aware of), it's just the typical brutish morons that unfortunately wear those clothes who hit on girls and talk crap about wrestling while they're watching UFC even though wrestling isn't even on at the time that are the obnoxious morons that I can't stand.

The writing is a mixed bag. They're in WWE to try and help wrestlers become superstars like Rock and Austin were, and yet they continually discover over the years that they are the obstacle in the way. That's because only Stone Cold Steve Austin knows how Stone Cold Steve Austin is supposed to talk, 'ya know?
