i realise that egg whites are better to have, common sense really.Just what u guna do with the yolk? seems a bloody waste to me. eggs aren't cheap to me. any views on this?

It is a waste, most of the goodness is in the yolk.
The egg yolks are bad for you thing was debunked a while back, so eat all the egg if you like them0 -
yea, there was a program where some 1 ate mainly eggs to check cholesterol and guess wat there was hardly any increase!0

If you're worried about wasting yolks, buy the egg whites already separated in the carton. And yes, they are real egg whites, not 'imitation'. De-bunked or not, I'm going to stick with my egg whites.0

I used to limit the amount of egg yolks I would have, but to be honest about half of the protein comes from the yolk as well as the egg white. It also adds a lot of taste to eggs and I do feel it keep me fuller if I have the egg yolks. My omelettes tend to be smaller without egg yolks.0

the Yolks are terrible! But only if you are counting calories, if you can deal with the calories they are very good for you. I throw the yolks away (usually into my compost pile) and I also buy the cartons of egg whites for making omelettes.0

If you watch your fat intake one of them has 5 g. I usually eat one full one with 3 or 4 whites.0 -

No processed food for me. But I work out quite a bit so I need the protein, and often eat 6-8 egg whites a day. Yolks aren't that bad but if you are eating them in that volume its a different story.0

I buy both straight egg whites and regular eggs with yolks!! I eat a lot of eggs.... Yolks are good fats!!!0

wow--are really having this conversation? first off, egg yolks are not BAD. anything in excess is going to be less than ideal but combining a couple whites with a WHOLE egg is not going to do you in calorie/fat wise. period.0

i stick to whites, purely for calorie reasons...........

the difference between the calories for the same Protein goal is significant, for somone not concerned with hitting high protein numbers though it likely wont make a difference to have a whole egg though.0 -

I feed the yolks to my cats if I it doesn't fit into my plan to eat them that day. It's a win/win. I don't feel like I'm wasting them and my cats get a special treat.0

too much LDL is bad because it settles in your blood vessels forming fatty streaks and plaque and can lead to acute coronary syndrome i.e. unstable angina, STEMI and non STEMI i.e. heart attacks. Roughly 50% of people who suffer a heart attack DIE within the 1st hour after onset of symptoms.

By the way I'm all for eating egg yolks as part of a healthy balanced diet but also eat just egg white when wanting to eat large amounts of protein but little calories.
Also eating cholesterol does not have a direct effect on your blood cholesterol levels but its actually the total amount of fat in your diet and the type of fat you eat. Eating trans fats and saturated fats significantly increases your blood cholesterol levels where monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats reduce blood cholesterol.

If you are only eating one or two a day, and your diet is relatively low in saturated fats, there's no need to throw them away. The yolk is where a lot of the nutrients are so if you are tossing out the yolk you are missing out on quite a bit.0

I use egg whites in a carton, but if I need to remove yolks I keep them in a small jar, covered with milk. Yolks also help prevent eye problems. I eat an egg a day - the whole thing. It ISNT bad for your cholestrol!0

i buy the egg whites (all whites brand) in a carton for convenience, but I think it is actually cheaper to buy the whole egg and throw the yolk away. I eat the whites with fresh veggies for taste and purely for calorie counting reasons. two whole eggs for 140 cals vs. 1/4 cup whites for 30 cals.0

Anywho, eggwhites (30 cal; 6 protein); egg (70 cal; 6 protein). I eat eggbeaters. I don't feel the need for the extra 40 calories. I do sometimes throw a whole egg or two in my egg & cheese muffins but not usually.0 -
It depends on what I'm eating whether I eat the yolk or just the white. If I am eating just the white, then I have a carton of egg whites.0

Eat what you chose but do it based on accurate info. The vast majority if the nutrition in eggs is in the yolk. What ever cholesterol it contains is immaterial as there in no indication of any relationship between dietary cholesterol and serum cholesterol. If you don't eat it, your liver makes it. The exceptions to this are if you are obese or have high triglycerides which is an over abundance of fat caused by eating far more simple carbohydrates than you body needs, thus it is stored as fat and goes hand in hand with obesity.
