    My dog gets the yolks. Good for her coat :)

    If it's good for her coat, why would it be bad for you? Your not in the habit of poisoning your dog are you?

    too much LDL is bad because it settles in your blood vessels forming fatty streaks and plaque and can lead to acute coronary syndrome i.e. unstable angina, STEMI and non STEMI i.e. heart attacks. Roughly 50% of people who suffer a heart attack DIE within the 1st hour after onset of symptoms.

    too much LDL in our blood good/bad?? you decide!!

    By the way I'm all for eating egg yolks as part of a healthy balanced diet but also eat just egg white when wanting to eat large amounts of protein but little calories.

    Also eating cholesterol does not have a direct effect on your blood cholesterol levels but its actually the total amount of fat in your diet and the type of fat you eat. Eating trans fats and saturated fats significantly increases your blood cholesterol levels where monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats reduce blood cholesterol.

    Thats all I have to say.

    I wonder if anyone has told mother nature LDL is bad, considering our body makes LDL to deliver cholesterol throughout our body to keep us alive. Confusing, isn't it. :devil:

    LDL is good but TOO much is bad, our cells are made up of a phospholipid bi-layer meaning it contains cholesterol, so every cell in our body needs cholesterol. LDL is the bodys delivery system to our cells for cholesterol but when theres too much it just stays in our blood and settles leading to plaque.

    I buy the carton egg whites. It so easy just to pour in the pan and then add what I like. If I'm out I buy just use whole eggs, I love the yolk but only if it's cooked. I hate it when it's drippy.

    I toss them in the trash, last time I compared the prices of a carton of egg whites and the equivalent in actual eggs, it came out to be equal. I mix one egg with 5-6 egg whites, high on protein, low on calories.

    I don't eat the yolks as they are too high in cholesterol. If you have high cholesterol or a family history of it you should not eat the yolks, just the whites. I just learned this from my doctor. I know it seems like a waste, but I prefer it to a heart attack later in life!
  • I eat eggs almost daily, with the yolks. I'm 66 years old. I have been doing this for years. I am morbidly obese and am losing weight, and I started eating eggs more regularly when I went on my quest for health. My blood numbers are straight up the middle normal. So, whole eggs don't seem to have harmed me at all and perhaps have helped me.

    My best friend lived to be 91 and ate eggs every day, more than once a day. She just loved eggs. She was taking karate lessons in her 70s and was taking care of 5 acres of wooded property in her 80s. She was healthy and active until just before she died. She didn't eat a lot of processed foods, but she ate hardy meals and for her tiny frame it sure seemed like she ate a lot! LOL

    But she was always moving, always doing things. She never joined a gym or worked out. Her strength was from doing things herself. I was staying with her a few years ago, and sitting in the kitchen. In my tiny friend bursts with a load of wood for the fireplace. I asked her why didn't she ask me to do that for her? She told me that the day she had to give up getting her own wood was the day she was pulling the ground over her head.

    Anyway, point is, isn't a lot of this luck of the draw? We get almost superstitious over eating this food or that one. I'd say the closer we eat to whole, fresh foods, and stay away from processed foods, the better off we are.

    i realise that egg whites are better to have, common sense really.Just what u guna do with the yolk? seems a bloody waste to me. eggs aren't cheap to me. any views on this?

    My grandmother has had sky-high cholesterol her entire life. She's 96. She's never had a heart attack or a stroke. There's much more to the risk than cholesterol levels and recent research says eggs (including yolks) actually help lower LDL.

    Egg Whites in a carton are almost £3 a carton and you only get 500g in the carton. I calculated that I would have to have 200g of it to get the same amount of protein than I would from three eggs.

    I put towards the groceries and I think they are like to £5 to get 30. That would last me about 10 days, whereas the carton would last me less than 3 days to get my protein fix.

    I just eat the yolk because one it's a waste and I can usually stay within my fat intake for the day if I know what I am having throughout the day. I will try to have chicken for lunch and dinner if I have had 3 eggs in the morning because it's quite low in fat compared to other meat with veggies.

    I buy the liquid egg whites in the carton. Though each person has different goal and egg yokes can be a good fat and protein intake if that is what you need.

    I hate seeing all those lovely yokes go to waste. There are so many important nutrients you miss when you throw the yoke out. Plus the wonderful flavor. I eat 3 a day most days. But I do get my eggs fresh from my chickens. YUM!!!!

    LDL is good but TOO much is bad, our cells are made up of a phospholipid bi-layer meaning it contains cholesterol, so every cell in our body needs cholesterol. LDL is the bodys delivery system to our cells for cholesterol but when theres too much it just stays in our blood and settles leading to plaque.
    That's right, but it's not necessarily the amount of LDL that can be bad but the "type of LDL" that is atherogenic . Oxidized LDL is the problem. Basically LDL particles are classified as either pattern A or pattern B. Pattern A represent large buoyant LDL and pattern B represent very small particles. The very small particles oxidize when caught between cell membrane and that is when the problem starts. One thing that seems to be a constant is that people that have high triglycerides also have pattern B and people who's TG's are under 70 have pattern A. This is why that for the last few decades it's been common knowledge that it isn't our total cholesterol that really matters but the ratio of HDL/LDL along with triglycerides. Someone mentioned sugar, and that is what causes/influences to a large degree how the body will decide to produce LDL particles and the more sugar/refined carb on a total calorie basis the more pattern B and the higher someones TG's. People can have a polyacrylamide gradient gel electrophoresis test that shows particle sizes, but it's extra cost.
