Does anyone have any suggestions on shin splints/pain. I'm 3 wks into couch to 5k program. Having a hard time because my shins hurt so bad. My left leg in numb with pain by the time I'm done running. I run on a treadmill. I stretch after the 5 min warm-up walk and after I'm done. I'm going out to get running shoes tonight (maybe 9 mon old tennis shoes are the problem) I don't want to stop so if anyone can give me advice on how to push through this, I would love it.

Oh my gosh! Shin splints are the bane of my existence! :explode:
I work in physical therapy and one of the therapists got me into a different shoe and they almost completely went away! So definitely go to a shoe store where they are knowledgable about stride and pronation and all that jazz. Also I stretch the heck out of my calves and that really helps with tightness in the front of the lower leg. Don't try to push through shin splints because they could turn into stress fractures and then you have no choice but to stop. Best of luck to you! Also if you are on sidewalks, try going to a track where there is softer ground to run on!

oh yeah, when they were at the worst, I took one week off to try to let them heal up. GOOD LUCK! I feel your pain :flowerforyou:

Thanks. I'm gonna try all this. I didn't realize shin splints could lead to stress fx!:frown: Better take this stuff more seriously.

myself and a few others I've read online have gotten rid of shin splints after buying new shoes.
