Bump's original meaning is "Bring Up My Post", basically moving the topic to the first page when it's not getting any replies or is slow.

Here bump seems to be used both for that purpose, though usually someone other than the thread starter doing it, or as a way for people to somehow "bookmark" that thread for later reading through/use rather than, say, actually bookmarking it or leaving it open in a separate browser tab.

Oh, but it's so much more

BUMP. A small lump of any powdered drug (i.e. cocaine, ketamine, heroin).

I'm gonna take this bump to the dome right quick and get to feeling good

    you're right. i'm so narrow-minded sometimes.

    You forgot about meth.

Back in the early 90's when the interwebs were all shiny and fascinating, people used to use bump and save...

*bump* to move to the top of the list

*save* to keep in your conversations to reference back to at a later date.

save seems to have fallen by the wayside.

    Nerd.

    An old nerd at that.

I've been reading some forums and some people are just putting comments saying Bump.. Wtf is that all about?

It is a dance craze from the '70's. Form is very important to avoid injury.

...in the 90's they turned it into the bump n' grind.

Necrobumps"Necroposting" (also called "necrobumping" or "gravedigging"), occurs when a forum thread that has been inactive for a long time, typically years, is bumped by a reader, usually in response to what he inadvertently believes to be an ongoing discussion, perhaps coming from a web search rather than from within the forum. These threads are often referred to as "zombie" threads.
