Raspberry Ketone

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with taking these? Apparently there was a repeat episode of Dr. Oz on TV last week and he said that Raspberry Ketone is the miracle 'diet' pill in a bottle. Now health food stores in Toronto are selling out like crazy of this stuff. I wanted to know any success (or not) stories before I buy them..
Another fad diet like the acai berry?
This was the article in our local paper: http://www.thestar.com/living/health/article/1154437--weight-loss-miracle-supplement-dr-oz-extols-virtues-of-raspberry-ketone

I can't find them in stock anywhere! They are completely sold out at every place that sells them around me!
I'm going to try online. I have heard from a couple people that they do work0 -
bump - I was thinking of trying this supplement in a "what could it hurt" kind of way - anyone have experience with it?0
-
Never tried them. I looked into it, but I don't feel like putting my body into ketosis. It's funny, my husband is a diabetic and has to be hospitalized when he becomes ketotic (actually was hospitalized a few months ago for it), but for non-diabetics, it's a way to lose weight!0

ketones are just the product that is left over from fat metabolism. The raspberry ketones are supposed to speed up your metabolism - make it hotter - I believe, not throw you into ketosis.0 -
Well my friend just bought them for me so I will let you all know how it goes.
I got the 200mg pills and it says to take them twice a day0 -
ordered mine online, been taking 3 weeks, zero visible results so far0

The test that showed raspberry ketones did anything went as follows:
1. Mice were force-fed a ridiculously fatty diet.
2. One group of mice stayed on the fatty diet.
3. Another group of mice was given raspberry ketones as a huge percentage of their diet (aka more than you'd be getting by taking pills).
4. Ketone mice gained less weight than fatty diet mice (note the "gained less weight," not "lost weight.")
Conclusion: if you take keytones as a huge percentage of your diet (which you won't be doing, taking a pill), and you are a mouse, you will gain less weight than someone eating a ridiculously fatty diet.
AKA, you will get the same benefit by, I don't know, not eating a ridiculously fatty diet.
TL;DR: Fad diet, there is no magic pill or we'd all be skinny, Dr. Oz is a crook.
Sorry to be blunt. It's been that kind of day!0 -
Well they are also good for your hair and skin... hahah so there has to be some benefit0

why does everyone want a quick fix? haven't we all learned by now that quick fixes are not lasting, whether they 'work' or not??? why not just go with eating right and exercising?0

From the research I have done, ketosis is the goal. In ketosis your body consumes what it can, be it fat deposits or muscle mass.
And apparently, just eating a strict no/low carb diet will cause ketosis.0 -

Ketosis is not the same as ketoacidosis (which is what your husband experienced).0 -
Yes, I am aware of that.0

Quackery is very profitable. I guess that could be considered a benifit. For the seller anyway.0 -
I saw some at Target last night next to the HCG.0

Sorry to break this to you but Dr. Oz just wants your money.

LOVE IT!!!!!0 -
I love raspberry ketone threads0

I took them for a month and there was no difference in weight reduction. Dr. Oz is wrong as usual. I stopped watching him long ago because of his misinformation.0

I am thinking of trying them to add to diet and exercise. I've lost 20 and need to lose a lot more and I'm only taking a multi vitamin. My health is great and not to say this will fix me but is there evidence that it works? If so, I'm thinking of finding them locally or online. I found them online for 12.99 at this link.

Anyone else know of anyone that has tried them? I hate to waste money on some quack idea.
Thanks,

I wasn't taking them for a quick fix - I eat healthy & exercise daily, just wanted them as a 'helper' so to speak0

I found them at CVS only one bottle on the shelf. I purchased two bottles from two different stores. So only two months worth. If it helps then great...if not I only spent $20 for the two bottles. 125 grams each 2 times a day I will post if I see anything or feel different. FYI found them in the diet area. I had to ask staff to find them.

People are allowed to do what ever they want theres always one!!! Shushhhh :P0 -
I have been on them for 3 weeks....i see changes in my body. The bad part is i raised my calories and had tom so I only lost 3 lbs in 3 weeks. I only got them because they had green tea in them and i needed more green tea so i thought i would try it. I might do another month and leave my calories where they are and see what happens.0

I ordered these about 3 months ago and haven't noticed a damn thing. :ohwell:0

A drugstore in my area has been adverising this. I didn't know what they were for.0

First of all, this will not be listed on the label, but if you do some research on the web, you will find that there are warnings not to take this if you are on Antidepressants, Asthma, Diabetes, CVD, or anxiety meds. The reason for this is that it raises your Norepinephrine and your adiponectin levels in the body.
According to an article at http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Diet/raspberry-ketones-frenzy/story?id=16074044&page=2, "The compound from the red raspberry (Rubus ideaus) stimulates the release of norepinephrine, a powerful brain-signaling hormone, which in turn causes fat cells to break down. The breakdown of fat cells produces fatty acids that the liver then converts into ketones. Because the release of norepinephrine is associated with increased heart rate and blood pressure, some of the more than 1,400 comments posted on the Dr. Oz show website included questions about whether the supplement might pose any risks for people with underlying cardiac conditions. "
In a nutshell, there is no true human research to validate whether or not this is safe and effective long-term. I would prefer to lose my weight the old-fashioned way burning fat through exercise and a calorie defecit. I am proof that with patience, hard work, and dedication it can happen. There really is no magic pill to make it all just "melt away'".0 -
