Health Scare!

Hi All,
I have been away from MFP for awhile and now being back on track.
Since the beginning of January, I had been low energy, migraines, always tired and even blacked out a couple of times (once while driving. Luckily no one got hurt.) I saw the doctor mid February and had the full spectrum of blood tests and awaited my outcome. The first thing she noted was my weight. Well, that was obvious but that couldn't have been the only factor.
The results came back with a vengeance. High blood pressure (189/107), High HDL cholesterol, low iron and Type 2 Diabetes. Holy crap! Not only was I ignoring my body but it was screaming back to me. The doctor also noted that my liver was being compromised and that my kidneys didn't know what to rescue first, plus my body didn't absorb the vitamins and nutrients needed to survive. So all in all, I was a complete mess. Doctor said that if I kept this up at this rate, I would be dead by forty. I had just turned 35 by this appointment. So five more years. YIKES!!!!
Now I don't have kids, but I do have a family and trust me, you don't want to hear those words. I just want to say that you need to listen to your body before it gets that far and deal with the things that you need to deal with because if you don't, no one else will. Don't get to the point where your body is screaming at you for help and you ignore it. No one can replace you when you are gone from your family.
For now, I'm on medication and being stabilized. Thankfully no insulin shots as of yet, but that may come down the road. I'm begging you, please don't do what I did and say to yourself that you will fix it later or postpone that doctor's appointment. You are valuable. You are important, just like all the other people you love. If you don't put yourself first, no one else will and you will be the person who suffers for that. Listen to your body and let it know that it will be taken care of.
Thanks, N.

Great post, and I'm so glad you are getting back on track.
A doctor appointment led me to MFP... I did not get any bad news other than the number on the scale, but it was only a matter of time. I had always been kind of thinking, "I know I'm overweight, I know I need to exercise and eat less and better, but I'll get around to it... I'll make small changes." Of course I never did, and I didn't weigh myself because I didn't really want to see the number. When I realized how heavy I really was, I got on the program as soon as I got back home from the doctor. Before my doctor's appointment, I was actually thinking, "Maybe I'll go to McDonald's for breakfast afterwards." That's the kind of thinking that caused me to be 75 pounds overweight...
Feel free to friend me if you want more support! Love that about MFP; there are really great folks on here who help hold me accountable and inspire me with their dedication and hard work.0 -

Thank you for sharing. Good luck on your continued health gains. Keep it up and maybe someday you can lower dosages, or go off meds completely.
It was also a health scare that brought me back into MFP. I hadn't blacked out, but was feeling very lousy all through the late fall. I kept promising myself I would start exercising again, and after I dropped a few lbs would then go into the doctor and see where things were at. My headaches were getting worse, and my energy was nonexistant. So, made myself go in as I was in mid-December. My blood pressure was through the roof - 190/110. I got the results of my blood work in early Jan. My glucose was a little high, he said it would be considered diabetic if it was a confirmed reading, and my cholesterol - while not overall high, the good was low, and the bad was high. He said I had metabolic syndrome, started me on bp meds, and said we would recheck the nbrs in three months. I just had the blood work redone Tues. So hopefull I will get good news on most everything when I see the doc next week.
I do take my bp at home, and it is greatly improved. I was hoping that I would be able to go off of it when I go in again, but I don't think the nbrs are quite there yet. Maybe three more months. I just have my fingers crossed that I have done well enough to avoid cholesterol and diabetes meds.0
