  • Pledged 0 as I wasn't commuting to work last week.
Actual 93 I got in a ride Saturday and then did my own metric century. =)

This week pledge with a crazy busy week: 64
  • I don't think that I posted last week which is good because I was gone most of the week. But this week I will go for 70 miles. Congratulations SPYGUY on your achievement that is huge.

I am going for 100 again.

I got some not so fun news in the local media today. We already have one bridge closed due to construction. The next closest one for me is going to close in two weeks, and stay closed for five months. That leaves just one bridge for me to cross. It makes my commute, which is normally 6 miles one way, about 12.5 miles one way.

So, assuming I can still commute daily, my mileage is going to go way up even before recreational rides are factored in.

Well, we will just have to assume it was someone not jumping to their defense!

Interesting incident this evening. A 14 year old kid wiped out on his bike in front of my house just before I got home from work. I crested the hill and saw him laying in the road, unconscious, with blood oozing out of a wound on the back of his head, and three people who saw it just standing around looking at him.

I don't know how he is doing now, but I called an ambulance and they carted him away on a backboard after immobilizing him.

My son, seven years old, after I told him all about what I had seen and done, looked up at me and said, "That is why you are supposed to wear a helmet!"

Of course, I always do, and was wearing mine the whole time all this was going on, then finished the last 100 feet of my commute.

So, I am at 92 miles and some change for the week so far. I should make my 100 mile goal after riding tomorrow. I pretty much always do at least 10 miles at the park on weekends.

I would have liked to go on a group ride tomorrow, but I just learned about it this evening and already have other plans. Local group is going to do a no-drop ride to Leavenworth (about 40 miles from here).

Wow! I hope that kid is ok :frown: I had a bad crash two years ago and I'm convinced that if I wasn't wearing my helmet, I'd either be dead or I wouldn't be the same person I am today. I was going about 17 mph (just happened to notice my speed right before it happened) and I just jerked the handle bars to the left accidentally (at least that's what I think happened, it was all so fast) and went over the bars. My hip and my head hit the pavement. I had no time to even put out a hand to stop myself. Helmet was cracked open in 3 places and my hip was badly bruised and swollen, and other minor cuts and scrapes. I called my father from the side of the road and went straight to the hospital for x-rays. I was convinced my hip was fractured, but thankfully it wasn't . However, there is other damage that I just have to live with.
I'm glad your son understands the importance of wearing helmets. Also, as you are a cyclist, I'm sure you insist on it. I see so many kids in my neighborhood riding without helmets and I wish their parents could hear a story like yours and realize how important they are. It doesn't take much. The slightest error or bump in the road and you're on the pavement.
Hopefully everyone in our little group here is wearing a helmet and encouraging others to do the same. :drinker:

Well, my week is over. Pledged 100, came in at 102.17. I should be good for another 100 this next week.
