real eggs vs. egg substitute?

I tried Egg Beaters and I did not like them. I did not find the taste to be worth the sodium content. They didn't even taste like they were salted to me. They were just yucky.
Try them and see if you like them. It's the only way to know for sure.0 -
Consider cutting something else besides eggs. They have one of the highest protein ratings for food.0

Egg substitute? Seriously? Like people had to eat during World War II because of the food shortages?
I don't think anyone is talking powdered eggs. egg beaters are where we're focused, I think. and they are made with real eggs.
I haven't heard of egg beaters. Maybe it's a US thing? Very intrigued. Is it a liquid thing, or a solid?
liquid. comes in a milk carton-type container.
basically, it is 99 percent egg whites. then there is the dreaded processed items that add back in many of the vitamins and minerals lost when they take out the yolk.
I had a pair of eggs today as part of a breakfast burrito. I don't not eat eggs. but I like the taste of the egg beaters, so figure if I can save myself 100 or 150 calories a day with a light breakfast, often I will.
(see, that leaves room for a chocolate chip cookie in the evening!)0 -
Egg Beaters All Natural Egg Whites are AMAZING. I don't even use real eggs anymore. They are super fluffy and yummy and, as far as I'm concerned, totally worth it. But you ought to try searching the forums because I've got a feeling this has been asked and answered in depth at least 250 jillion times.0

Yea, agreed in my opinion real is usually better than fake... here's a mini list regarding myths and misconceptions (cholesterol) about eggs from http://www.health.harvard.edu/press_releases/egg-nutrition ....
Oh and organic free range eggs are even better!0 -
This thread reminded me that I hadn't had eggs for a while... so I had two for dinner. Real, fresh from the chickens, natural, wholesome, nutritious eggs. YUM.
PS - Not everyone can afford organic, but please at least make sure the eggs you eat are free range. Think of the poor chickens0 -
looks like I'm going back to regular eggs!0

They have eggs somewhere in the ingredient list but it's not the one and only ingredient. There's a lot of unnatural crap in them.0 -

Alarmism at its finest.
Egg whites make up 99 percent of egg beaters.0 -

Really? Sure they have 99% egg whites in them but they also have "natural flavoring" which for the life of me I just can't find in the spice aisle! Maltodextrin, color, "spices" . . . sorry but a good old fashioned egg is better for you.
But that's just this alarmists opinion.0 -
Egg substitute. Less cholesterol and few calories but still has alot of protein0

I would stick with the real eggs and look at other ways to lower calories. I use eggs from my gree range chickens. So much better to eat that fake eggs.0
-
Real eggs all the way. As in the whole egg.0

I use the Costco brand of egg beaters along with one real (whole egg) to cut calories and cholesterol. The other day, I made my scrambled eggs all with the Costco egg beaters (same as the brand name "Egg Beaters" and find they stick to the pan too much. The taste is the same to me but then I load my eggs with smoked paprika, generic all purpose herb seasoning (same as Mrs. Dash original) and Tabasco 2011 Private Reserve sauce.0

My outlook has always been get as close to the natural product as possible. I try to eat brown eggs, because those are the local eggs for my neck of the woods.
I also try not to use fake sugars (like equal or splenda), I will choose sugar in the raw if available or regular sugar.
People weren't as overweight before all these highly processed foods came out. I think this has a lot to do with the obesity epidemic. I don't know for sure, but it works for me!0 -

Aye, the blindingly simple advice "Just Eat Real Food" can cure all manner of ills.
There is so much processed junk out there we have become blinded to the fact that if you just stick to a natural diet (not something in a can/packet with 'natural' on it) the body will sort the rest out.
The vast majority of food industry and it's dependant cousin, the drug industry, is making us, as a whole, sick.
The fact that it is harder to get cheap veggies and other Real Foods than some refined junk is a shocking state of affairs.0 -
A dozen eggs are really cheap, cheaper then the egg beaters anyway. I just seperate the whites from the yolks. I have gone from using one egg with two egg whites to four egg whites. You get used to the taste, and I think its only 75 calories for four large egg whites.0
-
I just use egg whites instead. Usually 1 whole egg and 2-3 whites. I far prefer the taste and you don't have to worry about the extra sodium.0
-
I use Naturegg 100% REAL egg whites too, tried another brand but it weirded me out and had other ingredients. I can't bring myself to throw out perfectly good egg yolks (and I dont bake) so if I'm not at the limit of my daily fats (happens often) I usually have 1 whole egg + 1/2 cup whites, tons of protein. If I have had my 30% fats for the day, I'll just scramble some of the whites.0

Always choose "real" food and GONE are the days where nutritionist say to eat only the egg white! The whole egg is all very very healthy...perfect really! Great low cal protein!!!!!!0
