I took part in my first race today, it was a 5 mile race in the wind and rain. I managed to run for the first mile and then had to walk the other 4 because my hip was giving me loads of pain but i finished  I came 714th out of 714 with a time 1:23:10 but i'm so proud of myself as i was injured. I have a 10k in May and really want to beat this time, any suggestions on how i can do this?

It wasn't the Runcorn Bridge Run was it? I did it too. The rain was a killer!

    Is the pain new?

I used to experience pain (knees, lower legs - not hips) until I did two things:

    1. Saw a physical therapist who got me on the right course to having the proper muscle strength, stretching regimen, etc.
    2. Made adjustments to my running stride to reduce the impact on my joints and tendons.

Good luck! You can do it!

I've had the pain for a while, going to make an appointment with the doc after the Easter weekend because I want to run my 10k. It was the run the bridge race and the weather was horrible at the start!
