Insanity!!!

Hey everyone! I just started Insanity on Monday and am 4 days in. I normally weigh myself on Friday mornings but couldn't resist the urge this am. I stepped on the scale and... I've gained 4 lbs this week. Does this make sense??? Has anyone done Insanity and do you have any tips and/or suggestions? I'm nervous that the program won't help me lose weight. Also, I have a terrible cold and my neck and face are swelled up. Could that be contributing to my weight gain?

Thanks!

Haven't tried insanity yet, but I'm sure you're gaining muscle before you burn more fat. Just stick with it and keep your diet the same or cut a few more calories. My friends (who actually stuck with it) had great results.
    Good luck!

I have been 4 weeks into the program but only lost 3lb:cry: But I can tell you I have lost inches since my clothes are a little loose.I have also noticed my endurance has improved alot. So keep up with it. Dont give up!

It's water weight. You will likely gain some muscle over time and that could eventually cause a weight gain if you are not also losing fat, but if you have fat to lose you'll likely see the scale go down after a while.

I am not an expert in anyway - but from what I've read in other forums when you start a new intense workout like Insanity your muscles may retain water as they are adjusting and repairing themselves. I would suggest looking through the forums or Google to find out more.

That being said, I'm in week 4 of Insanity and have only lsot 1-2 pounds (as of my weigh in last Friday), but definitely feel the improvement in the way my clothes fit. I've also heard people see the most results in month 2.

Don't get discouraged and keep going.

Insanity will definitely help you lose weight. It's an incredibly rigorous workout regimen and will burn tons of calories. I wouldn't worry about that.

As for gaining four pounds in a week - that's almost certainly just water weight. If your neck and face are swelled up, you could be retaining water in other places too, and it doesn't take much to throw off your weight from week to week. Unless you've eaten an extra 14,000 calories since the beginning of the week, it's not fat.

We all have the occasional week where we're bloated or otherwise gain/don't lose, even when we're being really good.

dont be discouraged by the scale! i lost 6lbs with insanity, and lost a total of 16 inches thorughout my entire body! you wont really see a change until month 2!!!! you got this!
  • Remember that muscle weighs more then fat. When I started working out I gained at first also, but you will lose quickly:smile::smile:

Thanks everyone! I am sticking with it and will see where i weigh in this week. Regardless, it is a killer workout and I feel great doing it. I'm sure it will work itself out on the scales.

    Thank you!!!

Hmm.... like a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat?

I'll chime in with the water weight - and that muscle hypertrophies faster than fat comes off. I gained a couple pounds the first week or so, but it does come off quite quickly as you go through the program.

If you're going to take measurements do it the morning following your rest day. I gained water weight during the week but weighing in on the Monday morning after resting on Sunday I had lost weight from my starting point.

And ALWAYS take pictures and body measurements, you'll see better results from them.
