Knee Pain? Can I strengthen?

I have just a TOUCH, a tiny TWINGE of knee pain every now and then. Noticed it again at Zumba tonight. But I also notice it first thing in the morning when I go up the steps. Nothing too terribly painful - YET. Just a twinge. I'm going to be 49 (what??) in a couple of weeks. Maybe my knee is just getting a little age on it? Zumba and walking are the only real cardio I do. Other days are Pilates and weight training. Is there something I can do to strengthen the knee, or put off this aging knee (what??) syndrome?

My Trainer has me doing leg extensions to strengthen my knees. 20 lbs most to start with and doing 3 sets of 15. It's worked. Knee pain is way better

I Suggest seeing a physio.. I see one as I have a bad knee and they will soon be able to tell you what you can do

I have knee pain too and I try to alternate my exercises...I.E. I will walk one day and if my knees hurt I will try and swim another day or elliptical or biking. I also have pronated arches so I have super weak ankles and flat feet...it's not my favorite! But I am curious to know what else you might get on here with suggestions as well!

    Good Luck!

You might want to do an internet search for "knee strengthening exercises" for ideas. I do a lot of walking to strengthen my knees, and I've been able to start running again, despite a knee injury last year and turning 60 this year. The most helpful strengthening program for me was Chalean Extreme strength training DVDs. They explain how to do squats without hurting your knees and demonstrate modifications to keep cardio routines low-impact and avoid knee/back pain and injuries. I apply the modifications to other cardio routines, too.

    Good luck with your knees!

ALWAYS go get it checked out.. learn from someone who has had 2 knee surgeries already (im 23) something could be minor a slight tear in a legament can turn into a complete tear and replacement surgery needed.. YOu could go to your local drug store, get a brace and see if that helps.. but i do suggest going to a dr. JUST to be sure..
