    In the context of the song, it means: I'm just this inanimate object no one ever thought to love, but I'll make sure you're safe and warm, even if you never cherish me.

    It's beautiful and so forlorn. I identified with it when I was heartbroken for a long time but trying to make other peoples' lives better through loving them.
