Eating in the car

Anyone else have a problem with eating in the car? I bought some Terra Sweet Potato Apple Chips at my discount grocer today (3 bags for $1) and since I had never tried that flavor I opened a bag to taste while driving. Before I realized it I had eaten about a third of the bag. If I hadn't stopped and put them in the back I probably would have finished the bag. I know I should never have opened it in the car but it was just so tempting.:blushing:

In the car, the house wherever. Sometimes I forget to "think" about what I am eating. I call it mindless eating, when I really think about it then it is mindful eating.

I am very guilty of mindless eating in the car. I'm trying to ban myself from it!

I have a complete ban on eating anything whatsoever in the car for this very reason. If I allowed myself to eat in the car it could very easily turn into a mindless moving binge!!

You could consider this a little victory though - you realised early on and stopped; not always easy! Plus you'll be less likely to make the same mistake next time. Every cloud..! :)

This is, without a doubt, the reason I'm here.

I'm on the road constantly and often have no choice but to eat in the car or not at all. I used to keep snacks (relatively healthy ones) in the car but would lose track of how much I was eating. Plus, driving gets boring.

Now I pack an appropriate meal to eat in the car so I can plan how much I eat. I do keep a bag of apples in the car, in case I truly do need an unexpected car snack, but they are in the back seat so I have to stop to get to them.
  • OMG!!! I finally bought a small cooler to try and do what you're doing. Great idea on making things not reachable so you don't over eat. Thank you, that tip is going to help me a lot.

Thanks for all of the replies. No more putting food within reach in the car!

I used to be in the same boat when I was a sales rep on the road. I travel less by car now (mostly fly, which is a whole other issue with eating options!), but when I do, I bring what I should eat during that time (with an extra banana or apple in case the trip takes longer). I also bring plenty of water. I keep it all in a small cooler and before reaching for something, I take a few gulps of water to make sure I really am hungry and not just bored. I stop only for gas and buy nothing else when I do.
