Welcome Sherry! Please join in anytime.

Had a rough weekend food wise...It was my son's 7th birthday yesterday. Happy Birthday Jackson! and we had a large family party with a slip-n-slide (like a moonbounce). It was a lot of fun but it involved hubby making lots of good food....I am certain I ate too much. I also ate out for both lunch and dinner on Sat and didn't make great choices.

Time to buckle down and get back to it. My kids have one more week off of school and then the chaos begins. This time of year is always so hectic. I am taking the 12yo to get his shaggy mop trimmed today....he wears his hair a little on the longer side  I still have clean up to do from party and of course mountains of laundry (never ends does it?)

    Everyone have a great day!

Good Morning! Today is my first "official" day back into this weight loss journey. I'm excited but nervous too.. .but I know I can do it I just have to stick with it! I went ahead and planned all my meals out for today in the food diary so I know what I am working with. I figure I might stay more focused that way and then if I do need to change anything I can.

Lettuce, I understand about the birthday party. We had my little girl's second bday party the 1st of this month and it involved lots of food too. But I'm guessing you probably stayed so busy with so many people (and kids!) there you probably worked a lot of it off!! I only have the one little girl so I don't have any in school yet. But I do have laundry piled up that needs to be done and she is so clingy she don't want me out of her sight so it's hard to do anything. It'll get done eventually though. .. my husband may even do some if he doesn't have anything clean:laugh:

Good luck to everyone today on this journey. .. .we will succeed!!

    Good morning ladies!

Welcome Sherry! :flowerforyou: We're glad to have you here!

Stacey, Lettuce - I am fine with whoever has time to post the new thread first does it. Starting next week, I should be able to post closer to 9 am est, but that may vary from week to week. Could one of you give me the directions on how to do it?

My food choices were poor this weekend. Our church does a Bluegrass Saturdays in August each year (this is 2nd year), and I worked it this Saturday. The concert is free, but we do sell hot dogs and other items. So, of course, since I'm sitting at the money table with the baked goods right in front of me and the hot dog & chips tent right next to me, it was very hard to stay on track. The hot dogs weren't quite as much of a temptation as the brownies sitting right in front of me! :grumble: :grumble:

Back on track this week! The kids start back to school tomorrow, so that should make things easier once I get back into a better routine.
  • I would love to join this group- I am a stay at home mom with a 6 year old daughter and 2 year old son.

As part of my journey to be smaller and healthier I am struggling with not eating what my kids leave behind on their plates. I have been successful for the last 2 months (well, one or two slip ups) but it is a constant battle. Does anyone else have trouble with this? Any tips? I do feed my kids healthy food (very little junk/processed foods) but those little bites do add up for me.

I had a very good week and was able to go to the gym six days- I have a weigh-in tonight so I am hoping for some good numbers.

i can also start the weekly thread if someone explains how. i am not computer savvy at all.

yellowhouse - welcome. are you eating their leftovers because of guilt about wasting it or yummy temptation?
when my kids were smaller i used to do that also. the whole "waste not want not" very ingrained. one of the times i lost weight between pregnancies i saw a nutritionist who told
me "the food is wasted whether you throw it in the kitchen trash or use your body as a garbage can. either give them less on their plates or toss the leftovers and get over it." that was sort of an aha moment. that was over ten years ago.

i still hate (and feel guilty about) throwing away food and make all reasonable efforts not to "feed the trash can" but sometimes it can't be helped.

    i just tell myself it's contaminated/has cooties.
y'know how gross kids are with their food!
or give them smaller portions so there's nothing left on the plate?
put their servings on the plate and then immediately pack up the rest and put in fridge?

welcome! and hope this thread is helpful to you on your journey!

Yellowhouse--Welcome! Glad you are here. I think we have a great group ladies and the numbers keep growing so all the more support!

Anyone who wants to start the thread on Mondays I am happy with it! It is really quite easy, Stacey had posted step by step directions a couple of weeks ago but I could try and explain it again if anyone needs it.

I got 2 of the boys' hair cut today. Going to take the 7yo on Wed.
My oldest starts his college classes today at the Community College. We are only letting him take one class because last semester he just quit going, didn't tell us and failed everything....was so mad  I just don't know what to do with him! He is smart so it is super frustrating and all his friends either go to school or have decent jobs. I think he is lost and has no idea what to do with his life right now....just get a part time job and take some classes (that you actually go to!) and try and figure it out!!
    Sorry for the rant!

lettuce, that must be so hard for you! obviously you and dh value education and to see your son "throw" his smarts away must be frustrating. so feel free to rant whenever! i hope he'll be able to commit to one class and see how good he does and build upon that success. :flowerforyou:
i'm should really get to the dusting and vacuuming now...discipline, discipline :ohwell:

stacey - i will try the peanut butter trick tomorrow, thanx.

lettuce - rant away. better than eating your frustration. i totally get the smart kid but lazy with no direction problem. i don't really have any advice just patience and gentle guidance which seems to be the path you are on. it is hard with the kids today i see even with some of my older nephews it takes them time to latch onto what they want to do with their lives. it is almost like they have too many chioces and oppurtunities. most of my neices seem to have everything planned out (collage, career, and life in general).

meanwhile- here- hubby and 16yo are unhappy with eachother (over what i think is nonsense).
tension in the house makes me feel sluggish. hubby has the ability to have everyone walking on eggshells while conducting himself in complete silence. i refuse to eat myself happy again - and right now a bag of cheetos would make me very happy. this too shall pass

Stacey and Angl--thanks! He (oldest) is just frustrating with his lack of motivation. He wrecked his car last Jan. (was an old '99 Camry) and we have refused to help him get another one until he gets at least a part time job to help make payments and believe me, around here he could get a job! lol

I have threatened to kick him out at one pt, the only thing saving him was he has Type 1 diabetes and needs insulin to live! He does help with his little brothers some and the youngest adores him....just wish he would "try" at something...ok I am rambling.

Going to go running this evening and do the 30 day shred tomorrow...burn those calories and frustrations away......

good attitude lettuce! and the diabetes does put a kink in the "tough love" plan. hmmm

hope you got a good pavement pounding anger explelling run in!

angl--resist those cheetos! chomp carrots instead!!

alright. gotta sign off and get to bed. so i don't eat anymore...

    'night all

    Good Morning everyone!

I did get in my run last night and it was a good one  The humidity was low and not too hot out but best of all, my knee felt good!!!
I did really well with my food yesterday too....Hubby wanted to order pizza but I ate a bunch of leftover grilled veggies before pizza got here so I only ate one slice and had a whopping 3oz of wine as my goodie and it was Red wine!

Have more running around today and I have to take the youngest back to the Dr. He is having pain when he goes to the potty and he just got over a UTI so I am worried it is coming back.

    Good morning!

Lettuce - I hope things will work out for your oldest. I'm with Stacey & Angl, rant away. That's what we're here for!

Stacey - I'm glad to hear you had a good vacation! Welcome back! How were your girls' 1st day of school?

Angl - I hope your hubby & 16yr old are getting along better. Good job on the food and exercise!!!

Today is the first day of school for my little ones. Since they have to be in school no later than 7:30 (WAY too early for kiddos!!), I woke up earlier and was rushing around getting myself and them ready. DH & I tag-teamed getting them ready. Then it was off to school! My son is now in 1st grade, so it wasn't quite as emotional as last year (except for the big kid desks in his new room! ). But my daughter just started Kindergarten ( &  ). Kindergarten has a staggered start, so she'll be with me tomorrow and Thurs. Then everyone in her class goes on Friday. That's when they have the Boo-Hoo/Woo-Hoo Breakfast for Kindergarten parents.

I'm not doing well w/ food this morning. DH got Krispy Kreme donuts from grocery store last night as a "treat for the kids", so had one of those this morning quickly. Once we dropped the kids off to school, I was starving (donuts don't stick w/ you long), so I ended up going through McDonald's drive-thru. I'm not planning on having lunch today. I'll probably get a little snack of something like grapes or baby carrots instead of lunch.

    I'll check back in later!

Amy---I love Krispy Kremes! yummy Hang in there with the rest of the food and eat something that will stick with you with some protein!
Yeah! for all the kids going back to school....I still have a week left, trying to cram as much stuff as possible into it.

I tried to do the 30 day shred this morning with the 2 youngest "helping" me....definitely did not get that good of a workout in, HRM only showed 139 cal burned...had to help little guy go potty during workout! :grumble: but at least he is potty trained now

Will try and do something else later today, don't want to run everyday to avoid injury. Might try to so some heavy lifting.

Have a good day everyone and keep up the good work!

Welcome both wks7777 and yankeefamily05! We are a support group of SAHMs that help motivate each other and support each other when we need it.

We don't have weigh ins but we do discuss the challenges of having a healthy lifestyle and exercising while dealing with kids.

Feel free to chime in anytime about anything!
  • My husband is out town- yesterday I was able to get my mom to babysit while I went to the gym but I don't have anyone to do it today. I have to exercise today...the only thing I could think of was taking my kids to the zoo so I could do some walking or stopping at the library to see if they have any exercise videos I could borrow and do during naptime. Any other ideas??

just so you know, there are tons of REALLY smart ppl on the boards who can educate you on all kinds of topics. Banks is one, tamtastic, arewethereyet, songbyrd and others know a lot. so you can always post up your q's to specific boards and ask for ppl in the know to answer.

    glad it worked for you.
also, lots of ppl claim choc milk makes a good recovery drink after a heavy workout.

to add to what lettuce said...
you can always check out the various teams and see what challenges they're doing and challenge yourself along with them. there are/have been some really good ones and it keeps things interesting as you go along this journey.

we're an informal bunch with diff ladies coming and going. but all are nice. this is definitely not the boot camp/tough love thread.
so welcome and i hope you find this thread helpful to you! :flowerforyou:

jumping jacks, dancing, marching with high knees, push ups, sit ups, wall sits,

lots of ppl suggest youtube to find fitness videos.
and I highly suggest dvd's from the library. i'm way into leslie sansone walk at home dvd's. it's helped a lot w/wt loss and incr my muscle tone.

it IS hard finding the time, but if you put it on your to do list with specific #days/minutes/or whatever measure--you'll have something to aim for. and you will SUCCEED (eventually). :flowerforyou:

congrats on your weight loss so far! don't give up!! persistence will pay off. just think how much closer you are than when you started and if you had not begun this journey you'd still be at the heavier wt or heavier. :indifferent:

I did my elliptical . Now I am cooking a supper of Pork Chops and Roasted Veggies!!!..I may have had a nutrigrain bar too..:grumble: I was feeling stressed...I guess I could have grabbed for worse!!!!

Made the kids some no bake cookies that my mom used to make for us growing up and they really like them...at least they are made with oatmeal! Now, I am just trying not to eat them!

My boys are running through the house like maniacs while I just sit here typing on the computer! sigh

Hoping hubby agrees to some yummy chicken for dinner, he made a homemade peach/habanero sauce this weekend and it would go really well with some grilled chicken...can you tell I am hungry? lol
  • Lettuce: Don't worry I feel so tempted by the sweets myself! And OMG your dinner sounds SO good!!!

The hubby and I took a 20 minute walk at the park today. He had Irelynn(my daughter) in her stroller and I had Lourianna ( our niece) in her stroller...We were really cruising!!! Tomorrow my hubs wants to get pizza hut:grumble: lol...Sabotage..JK...Idk..I already looked up 2 slices of pizza and it has 440 cals in it:frown: What to do???.....I'll have plenty of cals left over from my exercise cals..Should I do it ??.. I'm getting sleepy!!!
    GoodNight ya'll:drinker:

i eat pizza. the bottom line is cals in vs cals out. dsn't really matter what the cals are tho obviously the more nutrients the better.

the biggest thing i find is to have LOTS of water to flush out the sodium. that's the kicker with pizza and other fast food.

i had mc'd for lunch today and brownies and cookies--and surprise surprise i went over my cals, even with exercise.
but i'm kinda ok with it. i am super anxious since coming back from vac. the dog for one and school starting for two. didn't expect that and am def. not handling particularly well. i get small panic attacks around 3pm, worrying over how the rest of the day will go. i sweat, mind races etc. i know it's anxiety but that dsn't stop it. i just have to keep talking it out with myself.
so, i'm not super concerned about the extra unhealthy eating as i know its source and make a deliberate choice. does this make sense??
i know it's ultimately not healthy, but i also know where in my life i need to lay off so i don't explode/implode.

    sorry for the ramble....

getting off to bed tonight. earlier for a change.

ps--maybe maybe maybe have someone who wants the puppy!!!!! say an extra prayer or something please so she can go to them as her forever family. thank you!

    good morning ladies

welcome to all who are new here.
yesterday was an excellent food day in terms of calories and health.

this morning woke up and took the dogs on 1 hour walk. i am going to miss the luxury of waking up and thinking of myself first. on the other hand i will be able to hit the gym more with the kids in school.

stacey - what kind of dog do you have? why don't you want to keep her anymore?
  • Staceyw: I'm probably going to eat the pizza lol. 2 slices isn't what got me in this situation. Eatting half a pizza is. It makes more sense to me not to deprive myself of it. Pizza isn't going away!..
Angl:Congrats on the healthy day yesterday!! Keep up the good work:drinker: :drinker:

As for myself, I lost 1 more pound!! Woohoo..That means I have met my first goal and I get a pedicure this weekend.."does a happy dance:flowerforyou: *

OO my tummy is growling....I must eat lol....
