I scored bigtime this morning.

All of the below items for $20:

Included the following:

1 big bunch of bananas
12 key limes
6 lemons
3 big bunches of chive onions
4 ears of corn
5 kiwis
4 mangoes
1 big pineapple
1 bag of black beans
1 bag pinto beans

I highly recommend trying to search for one close to you if you can. Lots of wonderful fresh foods that are super cheap!

LOL I came in with an empty backpack so I could put in all the food, and ended up filling up the backpack and having my arms full to get back (about a mile) to my car.

They also have a huge fish market. Next week, I'm bringing a cart and a cooler.

    Yup. Miami.

I used to shop them when I lived in Tennessee also. Prices are similar (slightly lower here, but not much). We used to get a lot of corn, berries, and veggies at the Tennessee markets on the weekends in the summer.

I am cooking up the beans with some of the onions in the crock pot to use as a side dish for our meals this week. $3 for a crock pot full of food. Dry beans are awesome. Even if you can't find them at the market, you can get them at the grocery store in bulk, cook up a big bunch at once and eat off of it the rest of the week. They are cheap, nutritious, and tasty.

Ahhhhh see I live on a rocky island in a frozen igloo. I was getting ready to run over to the farmers market. It's all making sense now =(

Yeah? Well I have ice and rocks. And I bet if I throw them at you out of jealousy I can totally swipe your trees clean =p

It's worth checking out either way. I was surprised how much they had there today. I was not expecting it to have so much variety.

You'd have to come here first. Then I'd give you some fresh avocados, mameys, and a coconut, and you'd forgive me :flowerforyou:

Great scoop! I love farmer's markets too.

I was recently in Hawaii, and bought a bunch of great papayas and bananas at the market. The quality and taste was so much better than Safeway! (Less expensive too).

I was fully planning on buying papayas today, but couldn't carry it all to my car... Next week, I'm bringing a cart, cooler, and makin' a big haul!

There's a farmers market here down by the river, downtown. In a great location. They've been doing some construction now for several months down below it. It's going to be a bigger, better farmer's market... they've kind of fancied it up a bit. Brick construction, lots of glass... It's new but fits in with the old architecture, which is cool. So, it'll be inside this new building, but each stall will open up, glass doors that go up so that the trucks can still back up with the produce and unload or whatever. Looks really, really nice. So, I can't wait until they're done with that and open up the new market.

I started going last summer and I couldn't believe I hadn't gone before!!! The tomatoes were amazing! I work with a lot of wonderful gardners and that has inspired me to try some tomato plants of my own this summer. Tip: I was told to plant marigolds around the bed to keep pests and small animals way.

I am thinking of putting in a lemon tree in our backyard and a garden, but I've never grown vegetables before. I might start with tomatoes and go from there...

I've had much better luck with growing grape tomatoes than the large ones.

The only fruit my market has right now is strawberries. Still tasty, but not the kind of variety you have.
Lots of greens, radishes, artichokes, carrots.

I wish mine had more greens. They only seemed to have lettuce and cabbage at mine.

I'd take a picture of what I got, but I already ate the boudin balls, so tasty.
Skim milk, eggs, endive, broccoli, strawberries, bok choy.

Nice score! I've been trying to get all my veggies from our farmer's market. How much is your honey? At our market they are selling 8oz jars for $12.00...that is more than my weekly veggie budget. I love getting local honey, but not that much! I'll go honey less.

I got the 12 oz jar of honey for $3. I would not have bought it had it not been so inexpensive. Honey is really pricey at most of the other markets here. This is apparently a jar from a guy who keeps honeybees on his farm about 30 miles south of here.
