What is the big deal with Greek Yogurt?

Hi All
I see so much info on Greek Yogurt, what to have with it, etc. I have tried it and while it tastes good, it is so many more calories than the light I usually get.
So what is the big deal with Greek Yogurt? I am assuming it has something to do with the ingredients or better for you, but I just don't know.
Thanks,

Twice as much protein as regular yogurt0

More protein and typically less sugar!0

more protein. and it tastes f***in' awesome!0

Search the threads. Lots of info.0

High in protein and the plain makes a fantastic substitue for sour cream.0

You can get non-fat or light greek yogurt also - plain is better for you than any with added sugars (obviously).
Greek / Balkan style yogurt is creamier, has double the protein, less sugar, half the carbs and half the sodium of regular yogurt.0 -
More protein so it helps you feel fuller longer...and not to mention the taste is waaaayyyyy better than any regular/light yogurt out there!0

Lots more protein, more calcium, way less sugar, good for you cultures (especially um, for the ladies)
There are 60-80 calories in a Dannon light and fit and 100 in a Fage 0%, which is also not that wild a difference considering it's much more filling due to the protein.
Dannon:

Fage:

I also prefer the tangy natural flavor and creaminess of Greek yogurt to the overly sweet, somewhat watery taste of processed light yogurts.0 -

Same ingredients. It's strained more, so it's thicker and the protein is higher.0 -
its delicious and a great source of protein.0

plus the FEW extra calories it is helps all those people who say "I just can't eat more calories, I am not hungry." Problem solved!!0
-
taste better , better texture0
-
I don't get it either. I think it tastes gross, way too creamy.
I don't like regular yogourt much either but I can barely stomache greek yogourt.0 -
Way more protein, and way fewer artificial ingredients. Love it!0
-
More protein and it tastes so damn good!!!!!!! Chobani and Fage girl right here!0
-
I was wondering the same thing... Thanks.for posting the topic and after reading I cant wait to taste it0
-
I use it fo recipes, and swap it out for sour cream, taste just about the same and much better for you.0

That light yogurt so many people eat has a bunch of artificial crap in it whereas greek yogurt does not. Higher protein and more satisfying.0
-
The brand I get is high protein and low carb and only 100 calories per container.0
-
No artificial sweeteners like in "Light" yogurts. Those things are no good for you! Shouldn't touch 'em with a 10 foot pole.0

High protein.
This is the whole greek fad. I'm onboard too, I have one every morning with breakfast. I've even gotten my dad into them, he has started eating them instead of ice cream at night lol0 -
LOVE it!!! I add it to my Protein shake!!0

Higher protein, richer taste.0

Fage is my favorite! Much creamier.0 -
I had no idea, I just thought it was creamier so more calories... thanks for the information !0
-
Mix it with peanut butter and freeze it - ice cream!0

I just started eating greek yogurt...I used to eat the Yoplait Light everyday but once I realized all the artifial sweetners it had I stopped..greek yogurt is more natural and has double the protein so I'll take extra 40 calories I get from it rather the 100cal fake yogurt0

Oh, so many answers!
Fantastic fruit smoothie, especially with any seasonal berries - freeze this and you have ice cream to die for.
Grape nuts stirred in with or without added fruit are lovely for breakfast.
Mix with lemon or lime jiuce, whatever herbs you like, some garlic, a tiny bit of salt and some pepper - marinate overnight any fish or meat you like before cooking it.
That's just immediate thoughts.0
