Sorry to lurk but I noticed you've consistently burned almost 3000 calories each day for a while now! What exercise are you doing and for how many hours? It's amazing!0

I calculate my rate of malabsorption in my calories burned as well as what I burn from physical exercise.0 -
Give it another couple days. Since I assume you gave up soda with the diet (kinda mandatory) , you might also have a caffine withdrawl with your "carb flu" . In my opinion this is the worst part about the diet is the first week, once you get through that, you'll begin to feel much better. Just a couple more days
I haven't had a sip of pop in over 7 years. I do drink a crap ton of coffee though. Thanks!0 -

If you feel like crap maybe that's not the diet for you:-/0

I have a malapsorbtive condition. I can only absorb about a 3rd of what I eat, that why I eat so many calories.
Gotta say, I am a little bit jealous.0 -
I'm not doing it to lose weight. I'm doing it to kick my carb addiction. Along with therapy.
Good luck.
It sounds like you're hating it a lot, though. i don't know about you, but i stick to things i like and avoid things i hate. i generally hate hard circuit training, so as soon as i stopped seeing the student PT who put me on circuits, i stopped doing them. but i like running, and hiking, and walking, and strength (and now i do actually like more moderate circuits, as long as my heart rate doesn't spend too long too high), so i do these things.
my general rule is that if it makes me feel sick or completely miserable, i don't do it.
perhaps keep trying, and if you keep hating it this much, seek something else. i personally decreased my sugar intake by first switching out chocolate for fruit, (with a small daily limit of chocolate that i could have on any of 3-4 days a week). then i decreased my fruit intake back to normal, increased complex carbs, and decreased chocolate a bit more.
i think instead of eating complex carbs, i was eating high protein, high sugar. by stabilising my carbs and mentally looking at the reasons why i ate sugars in such an unhealthy way, i was able to dramatically decrease intake.
a similar approach may be an option if you hate cutting them out completely too much.0 -
Don't do a low carb diet. Easy as pie.0

I think it works by completely cutting out grains and sugars ,it detoxes your body, so in turn you won't have cravings for the sugar. I've found that in my own experience, the more carbs I eat, the more I crave them.
IT sucks balls, but I figured I can try it out.0 -

I don't completely hate it per say. I just hate how it makes me feel. The first 2 days I was fine and I always feel better when I load up on fat and protein....and I've read that this "carb flu" passes after a couple of days and then you feel great.
I was hoping to get some pointers on helping the carb flu pass more quickly.
I've been looking at the mental reasons for the carb binging in therapy and its really helped a lot! Your point about examining the mental reasons is very wise!0 -
Maybe the low carbs is not good for you.
I think many ppl gave you some advice. You should give it a try!
I'm addicted to drinking latte or tea with milk in the morning, without it I can't start work LOL0 -
[ And I'm 42.
42 and that body?! Hubba hubba!0 -

I hear ya! I think I'll be fine after the first two weeks. Then it is no processed sugar/carb crap except on occasion. This is going to be rough this weekend....I'm a bridesmaid in a wedding on Saturday....eeek. My willpower will be put to the ultimate test!0

I would never go on a low carb diet. I'd quit by day 5 for sure. I love bread of all sorts, rice, fruit, etc. If I tried something like that I am sure a big plate of garlic bread would appear somewhere in my life, which I have no will power against.
The south beach diet is eat like this for so many weeks, then eat like this to goal weight then maintain it like this right? Good luck to you, but remember the best diet is one you can stick to.0 -
What happens to the food that isn't absorbed by your body? Does it make you pop more often?0
-
Yes. It's amazing how much comes out of my *kitten*....seriously! lol0

bump for later0

Days 3 and 4 are the worst. It honestly gets much better after that. I can't even bring myself to try the diet again because of the first 2 weeks.0
-
I survived Day 3 and 4 without killing anyone! I hope it keeps getting easier. Thankfully I was able to sleep alot yesterday to combat the sluggishness. Thanks for all of the tips and advice!0

As you probably already noticed as the week goes on and your body moves from buring carbs for energy to burning fat your energy will start to come back. I am carb sensitive as I tend to collect BF around my mid sections. Everytime I carb detox I feel exactly like you describe but by the end of 2 weeks I feel amazing and have no more cravings. Keep with it and you'll be happy you did. Add me if you want support and ideas of what you can eat. I'm always happy to help a low carber.
FOR ALL YOU CARBS PEOPLE, I LOVE CARBS SO I DON'T WANT TO HEAR CARBS ARE NOT THE ENEMY!!! EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT AND SOME PEOPLE'S BODIES REACT DIFFERENTLY TO THEM.0 -
I agree that carbs are not the enemy....just my cravings for the unhealthy ones are....And they must be stopped. That's why I'm doing this.0
-
I would never do a low carb diet. It's IMO the wrong outlook on weightloss. I would be one moody girl lol.0
-
A banana and a glass of milk will help with the sugar cravings...something about the potassium with the calcuim that does it....or something like that.0
-
If it's making you that miserable, perhaps it's not the right plan for you - ? I eat (grain) bread daily. I refuse to live without bread. I've done low carb and other extremist dieting, but I've been most successful in eating what I want in moderation. I don't go out and buy just off the shelf white bread, I buy bakery bread that has grains, etc. Go without chocolate?? That's just crazytalk! All the best to you on figuring out what will make it work for you. :flowerforyou:0
