Rest Day Blues

So I know that rest days are necessary. I always take them, and I have occasionally taken more than I should. (Not since I started here though)

I'm wondering if anyone else gets the blues/feels demotivated after a day of rest. I feel mentally absent, kinda bored and generally unmotivated. Yesterday was a rest day and it took some work to go on my run today. Once I went I felt a million times better. Just an observation.

I guess this awareness could count as an NSV?

I go through the exact same thing. Was just talking to my husband about it.

I'm the same way. I don't like rest days at all - it feels like I have way too much pent up energy. I usually try to get out and take a long walk or something just to get moving for a bit.

I don't have rest days, had a PT tell me you eat 7 days. I rest's from doing weights or high intensity. So a rest day may be a light jog or a walk. I find i can't not do anything.
  • That is really common. It's almost like you are coming down from a high on a type of drug. For me, the better the workout, the bigger the downer the next day is. I seem to have no energy. I recorded it in my journal and realized that it happens every single time.

yeah i was supposed to take a complete week off, but i made it into a no lifting week instead and today is my complete day off. i should have planned better and had more stuff to do. all i know is that i'm looking forward to my workout tomorrow (and i might even end up going twice )

Now that it's warmer outside, I don't take my rest days as religiously as I used to. I won't lift on rest days but I do take my bike out and ride a few miles.

since i do not do much of anything, exercise is the only thing that gets me moving. If it was not for that, I would be in the house/bed most of the time, so I have to do something.

I do active rest days. Stress relief yoga is my thing. It feels wonderful after the tough stuff.

Thanks for posting the topic. I'm glad to see I am not the only one that has a tough time taking rest days. I have two days a week I don't hit the gym and I really miss it. It is my happy place, my place of peace, alone time, thinking, and stress relief. What is not to love about working out?

I am the same way. I try to do something on rest days too. I was forced to take a rest day today because I strained one of my quads yesterday. It was a difficult day today since I felt like something was missing. I'm glad I'm not alone in hating rest days. I was a little concerned that I was becoming a bit obsessed with working out.

Why do you "have to" rest? So far, I cant. I feel down and I feel guilty and unmotivated. It keeps me energized and in line.

Do you have a workout buddy to go with? I don't think I'd be able to go to the gym as often as I do going by myself. I definitely find it difficult to work out at home also. I just lack the drive.
And I have been going through a ton of rest days from school if that counts *sigh* I don't know, sometimes I think it's hormones that just kick in sometimes. I feel perfectly fine but some days I can't bring myself to get out of bed and cheer up!

I've been told to have 2 days rest a week by my physio. Today is my 2nd one this week and it feels WEIRD! I worry it will muck up my daily exercise routine (I still walk on my rest days but no other exercise)

I absolutely cannot just lay around all day. I already feel super restless when relaxing at the end of the day, like I should really be doing something more active, so taking a whole day off is torturous. I always at least walk for an hour, big fan of the active rest day.

im in the middle of doctor ordered mandatory bed rest for a full week and its driving me INSANE. i am day 3 right now and if i wasnt feeling as crappy as i am, id be out there trying to do things!! i just cant sit still anymore and its really upsetting to realise that you are being forced to sit on your butt for that long.

Oh, I'm exactly the same. I feel like I have loads of pent-up energy, like I'm nowhere near as tired (my mind tends to buzz a little, and I toss and turn in bed whereas normally I'm asleep before my head hits the pillow) and generally a bit antsy.

I've tried to change my perception, mind you - that my body needs the rest, that it'll benefit me, and it's a necessity rather a failing.

Same here...I always plan some project around the house that is moderate in activity or some family outing where I will be movin around (my rest day is usally Sunday). That way I feel like I have accomplished something and get the blood moving...can't sit on my butt all day, that's for sure!
