10 mins and felt like throwing up!

So, I did my first Insanity workout. I feel horrible. I could only get through the warm up, and then about a minute of the actual workout. I thought I was better than that. I was so ready to die, that I just sat there, watching the rest of the dvd.

I really was standing there, my head hanging in shame.

I didn't think my fitness level was THAT bad. Other than just keep doing it, is there any other way I can get better at these Insanity dvds?

    Nope.
    Just keep going.
When I started lifting at the gym, I would go intense for the session and on the big exercises like Squats, would feel very queasy . The only way to stop that is keep going at it.

Don't try to keep up, pace yourself & just do what you are capable of & wait till the next fit test & you will be pleasantly surprised :)

just do what you can. If there's a part that is too challenging, try to keep moving during those parts by running in place or doing jumping jacks or something so you don't lose momentum!

From the title, I knew this post was about INSANITYbefore I even opened it! I'm a fellow Insanity-user. Just finished week 4. PM/Friend me and we can lament together! Even though I feel good after every workout, I dread doing it. Getting ready to Dig Deep w Shaun T right now, as a matter of fact! Ugh.

Hey--you lasted 9.5 minutes longer than I might have managed.

I had a friend that started running two minutes at a time. She started walking on the treadmill, and then would run two minutes, walk another ten, and then run another two. She ended up being able to run entire 5K races.

    You can do it!

Slow & steady wins the race. Do what you can, work on what you can't. Before you know it, you'll be insane too!
  • Even in the infomercial for Insanity they say they threw up during their first try...you're definitely not alone!!!

Go at your own pace and you'll get there! Just keep pushing play :-) You can do it!

Doing TurboFire now which I LOVE LOVE LOVE but moving on to Insanity next. Friend me if you'd like!

When and what did you eat prior to the workout? I've just started for the second time. The first time I did manage to complete month 1 but had serious issues with nausea, lightheadedness, weakness etc. I just felt horrible. I ended up seeing my Dr. who encouraged me to eat more protein through out my day. I was on 1200 cals (per MFP)...which I think was just too low especially for all the activities I was doing. I always eat my exercise cals back too. Around the time I started I had hit a plateau and was hoping Insanity would help with that last 5lbs. I've since upped my calorie intake and try to eat more protein. I'm feeling better and hoping to get back on track with my activity level.

I've learned I need to eat mainly carbs about an hour or an hour and a half before most of the workouts--too much protein just seems to sit in my belly. I alternate between gatorade and water during. I try to do protein after. It was hit or miss to figure out what worked and like everyone else mentioned...go at your own pace.

It's hard! I've tried it twice and I just slow down when I have to and sometimes pause the dvd for a minute or two.

The first time I tried it I was about 160lbs. It was tough and I quit after 2 weeks.

Then I tried it again at 185lbs and it was even harder! I didn't realize how much of a difference 25lbs could make! I made it through 4 weeks that time and then quit again.

I didn't consciously chose to quit either time, I just started feeling busier and made excuses not to do it and then eventually quit.

I'm focusing on losing weight now, but I want to try it again. I'm 166 right now, I'll probably try it again when I'm closer to my goal. I have Chalean Extremem and I want to finish that first to get stronger (can't do a push up to save my life right now!).

I didn't do Insanity, but my first workout with EA Sports Active 2 was also only ten minutes before I had to quit. We all start somewhere, just do what you can and eventually you'll be doing it all.

I could tell this was about Insanity before opening too!
Today I finished week 6! Only two more weeks to go. This is the hardest workout I have done. After I did the first fit test I felt like throwing up for an hour.
I can not eat a lot before doing it. I have a small breakfast about an hour before. I still do get a little sick feeling sometimes.
You can keep trying and pushing your self and you will get better. Although if you really think it is to hard, try something a bit easier first then come back and rock Insanity! Beachbody has lots of programs, some people say Insanity is the hardest.
I though I was in shape too before starting. If you want to dig deeper and keep going, friend me and I will try to keep you motivated!

    ^^^^ Read this.

    Then read this >>>>>>

When I started out 6 months ago, I was 260lbs. I could not have run out of a burning house with a mad dog after me if there was free cheesecake outside the front gate.

    Now I am 237 (I hope - weigh-in is in the morning)

I started out by running 5 mins, walked 10, ran 2.5 mins, walked 5, ran 1 min, walked 3 as part of my workout in the gym. After running/walking, I switched to the stationary bike which I climbed off feeling sick after 10 mins.

On this Friday, just passed, I did 90 mins on the bike, climbed off, shook my legs out and did 10 mins weights. I also do 90 mins yoga once a week and walk 80 mins to and from work every day.

That is how far an old fat Nellie like me has come in 6 months. You look in the shape I aspire to!

If I can keep at it, I am sure you can too.

    Prove me right :)

Now you know what it is like, as told earlier, pace your self. Nice thing about home workouts on DVD, they come with a pause button and no one is there staring at you. You will be fine. I did here it was "insane", hence the name.

Wow! Thank you so much! Seriously all these replies have been so encouraging! I really appreciate all of your advice....

I will try again tomorrow, and pace myself a little bit more... I guess everyone started someone. The point is to just not give up.

    Thanks once again =)

Agreed. I have also learned to not do things to failure or you are just going to hurt yourself. If you can't do it correctly, just take a breather until the next exercise and try for more next time.

I'm late, but I have to put in a word for doing what you can. The first workout video I ever did was a Denise Austin video, it was 20 minutes of cardio. I had to sit on the floor multiple times. I thought I would die. After a few months, I could use it as a warm up.

Insanity is no joke. I was doing Interval workouts with jumping, burpees, mountain climbers, etc.several times a week for a month and a half and had a decent but not great base of cardio endurance before that. Pure Cardio killed me. I had to take breaks in the freaking warm up and hit pause more than a few times in the video.

Next time you may get to 10 minutes or 15. Eventually you'll conquer it :)
