Brick Wall

I've so hit a brick wall.. and I can't get past it. I've lost 40 lbs and 17% body fat and I'm stuck at 192 lbs. I've been stuck in the 190's FOREVER!!! I'm reading on here to eat more calories.. but I am like deathly afraid of that. My biggest fear is that I'll gain! I've been eating about 1330 and burning between 500-600 5 days each week doing plyometric circuit type workouts. I never eat back exercise calories.

Seriously the thought of eating more sends me into a panic. I can't do it. My best friend was a body builder in college and then a professional power lifter in med school. He's saying to just cut carbs, cut fat, and increase protein. He said increase calories a little but basically just keep doing what I'm doing.. the man knows dieting well.. he was Mr. Alabama all muscle and not an ounce of fat on him at one time and then a few years later a world champion power lifter-benching over 700 lbs. But, on here I'm reading that I should be eating about 1900 cals on non-workout days, net cals of atleast my bmr (1617) on workout days, and setting macros at 40/30/30.. He says that's to many carbs and not much fat..

I'm STRESSED. I just wanna lose the next 23 and meet my goal and I want to do it by the end of June while I still have a trainer to keep me fired up and motivated to workout and workout hard.. 2 lbs per week. But before I can do that, I have to break down this wall.

Thoughts?

Lots of bodybuilders like to do low carb stuff. If it's sustainable for you, go ahead... in fact, you'll probably lose the 2 lbs a week you want to. The likelihood is that it wont be sustainable and you'll find yourself gaining it back...

If you just slowly add cals, you could have a good experience, get to eat more, and lose weight in a safer, sustainable way. You may not be able to get those 2 lbs a week down since it does have an adjustment period, but I can say it is worth it! :)

Nothing wrong with increasing just by starting to eat your workout calories... then you can adjust from there. :)
  • I don't no much about this kind of stuff but I've heard zig-zaging your diet can break plateaus. So instead of eating 1330cals a day, eat 1600 one day, 1000 the next then 1390cal the day after. So technically your eating the same amount of calories over the three day time period your just confusing your body about how much your actually eating.
    Hope that helps.
  • This "eating back exercise calories" really confuses me...I have lifted for a while and I do know some stuff, but will never claim to be an expert. If you are trying to lose weight, why would you fuel your body, exercise and then eat those calories that you just spent all that time to burn off?

Here is my two cents...first, an earlier posting (sorry forgot who it was) mentioned varying your daily caloric intake. That is actually a great suggestion. You can vary your intake by a couple hundred calories (making sure you are not using empty calories to do it). Also, are you eating the same foods for each meal at the same time? Vary those as well. Consider taking a muti-vitamin...when I was trying to lose my 80 pounds, I hit a plateau at the 50 pound mark and when I incorporated a multi-vitamin, the weight started coming off again. What about your exercise routine? Are you changing that up every couple of weeks? What about your cardio sessions? Try mixing them up with HIIT and steady state sessions. I will be glad to look at your routines if you want me to, just let me know! God Bless and keep at it, you will achieve all of your fitness goals!
