Calculation on food package

Hi. My brain has gone totally blank on me... How do I adjust the nutrition data on the back of food packets, so that it matches what I eat? E.g (totally made up example) the package is 300gram of 8 cookies. 25 cal per 100 gram. How do I calculate what 1 cookie would be? Believe it or not, I work in finance..... My brain is just............. :ohwell: Thanks.

Replies

  • 300 / 8 = 37.5 - each cookie weighs 37.5 grams

    If the serving size is 100 grams, then you ate .375 serving sizes.

    8 cookies = 300g
    1 cookie = 300 / 8, roughly 40g
    100g = 25 cals
    40g = 25 / 100 x 40, roughly 10 cals

    300gm=8 cookies
    150gm=4 cookies
    75gm=2 cookies
    32.5g=1 cookie

    for every 100gm = 25 calories. (Based on what you posted)

    1/3 of 8 cookies is 2.66 cookies = 66.5 calories

    This is how Im understanding it from your OP

    if there are 8 cookies in a serving and you ate 1, you ate 1/8 of a serving.
    to change that into a decimal, divide 1 by 8.
    1 divided by 8 is .125, so you ate .125 of a serving.

    (i have to do that ALL the time.)

    ETA: i do this after i find the food listed in MFP. so i'll add the listing, as it is in the database, to my food diary, and then adjust it to reflect the amount i actually ate. i just re-read your post... sorry if this wasn't what you meant/were asking >_<

    You'd divide the numbers. 300g divided by 8 cookies is 37.5 grams a cookie. For the Calories I would find how many calories are in one gram and then multiply it by how many grams one cookie is. 25 calories divided by 100 grams gives you .25 calories per gram. .25 x 37.5 gives you 9.375 calories per cookie.

    I hope I didn't explain it in a complicated way.
