showed your video to my lifting coach. his feedback:
"there are maybe one or two things going on that might fine-tune his set position. he might not have great voluntary control/awareness of the muscles of his back, or he might have hamstrings that need stretching, or a combination of both those things. either way, he could set his back a bit tighter at the start, but it's not a huge issue. it's a better back contraction than 99% of people make when the set up for their deadlfit"0 -
whoops - hit post before i was finished. here is the rest of his response:
but the biggest problem I see is that instead of *squeezing* the bar off the ground he kind of gives it a yank
it's a yanking start. and i think it makes the job of holding the back tight even harder than it should be because he's managing to yank himself out of position a little bit 'cause you see him get loose and allow his back to curve a bit as he pulls it.
if he fixes the yanking start and still has trouble holding the back tight, then he may just need to hear the cue "get tight and stay tight" right before he starts to lift it0 -
