Couldn't afford WW anymore, so trying out MFP

After hitting plateus on WW and feeling guilty for the monthly $$ I was dropping I decided to swtich over to MFP instead. Looking for friends that can motivate, as well as share recipes as I love to cook! I am 23y/o female recently diagnosed with RA, and looking for exercise that can be feul for weight loss without tearing up my already sore joints. I am hoping that major weight loss will help with the inflammation and pain, and once I reach a healthy weight (at least 50lbs) my husband and I would like to start a family!

Free is good!
And you can still use some of the things we've learned at WW here.
Welcome and best wishes!
(I don't "friend" people until I know them better, but happy to chat on the message boards.)0 -
Free is my favorite price for anything0

Great site you'll love it!!0

I moved from WW too. It is a little easier to track, because you don't need to recalculate everything twice. Feel free to add me if you like. Welcome! and good luck!0

That is how I found MFP too! To be honest I like MFP more than WW (free indeed! And the online community seems more active), but it does take a bit more attention to monitor calories, carbs, protein, and fat instead of just points.
Feel free to add me as a friend and we can support each other0 -

You said it pal! Well welcome to mfp!!! Trust me, you won't regret the decision. I thought about joining weight watchers, but in the end, it did boil down to the money for me. I'll send you a friend request, happy losing!!!0 -
The elliptical is great. I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis..feel free to add me.0

It's the best thing you'll never buy for health and fitness!! Love this site and I've learned so much from it, especially about my food intake! Welcome and enjoy!0

I've used both and in my personal opinion, MFP beats WW hands down! Welcome0
-
That's why I am also on MFP. Welcome.0

I was also on WW and tired of paying for it. I am struggling with 50 lbs. keep going up and down by 20 lbs. trying hard to get back to tracking my food. And adding more exercise.0

WW was to high for me too, but I like this site by a long shot so much better! Don't get me wrong, WW was great but saving the money is better!! Good luck, feel free to add me if you'd like!0

I am an older person but I have artificial knees, and I use a stationary bicycle for exercise. It never gets old because when it gets easy I crank up the level. I'm not sure a person with RA can do that but I have osteo in virtually every joint and the bike doesn't aggravate any of it and in fact I am feeling better pain wise than I have in years...of course that might be due to the weight loss. I also like to cook so if I can help you in anyway I would be glad to do that. Feel free to add me.0

I actually like this better than WW. It is simple and to the point. No need to count points any longer. Sorry to hear about your RA. Have you tried taking a Fish oil supplement. I find that it really helps my joints. Good luck!!!!0

Welcome! You'll like this site much better than WW.0

Came here from WW too. Its great for support and the calories you see not points are amazing. Hit the same wall for us too. Also they went way to commercial for me the last couple of months we were with them.0

I also am a past WW member and I love this sight so much better and Im having better success with it Good luck to you!!!!0

I had a friend tell me about this site today. I have tried WW in the past but couldn't keep spending the money on the fees either. I like how easy it was to log in the food. I also like how it told me at the bottom "keep eating like this and you will weigh ... in 5 weeks" that might actually help me.0

Another former WW member here. Like MFP a lot and to me, it shows you what you are actually eating in calories and other counts, such as fats and sodium. With the points system, I was never really sure!
Welcome and you'll do well!0 -
Welcome! I'm also a WW drop out. It's just so expensive!
Feel free to add me!!0 -
I considered WW a number of times but I am a full time working mom. Meetings and membership fees just never seemed to be in the plan. Plus, points have always seemed kind of alien. I like simply recording what I eat.
WELCOME! :-)0 -
I've done WW off and on for years - I just wasn't following it anymore so obviously it wasn't working. It was time for something new for me as well plus justifying paying 20$+/mth for a membership I wasn't using... not easy to do! I'm finishing up my 2nd week on MFP and still learning a lot about the site but so far LOVE it!0

Glad you're here! This is a much more productive place to achieve your weight loss goals than weight watchers! You will find great information, lots of helpful and friendly people, an easy way to track food and exercise and a lively community on the boards.
I've done weight watchers before and the only really hard thing when you come to MFP is that veggies aren't free. You have to count those calories here. But because they're so easy to track, the adjustment didn't take long.
MFP is also great because tracking automatically includes things WW never did: like calcium, sodium. cholesterol, etc and you can get reports on your progress. It's very motivating to see weight and body measurements graphicly track down!
I'm better than twice your age, but feel free to add me if you don't mind an "older folk" among your friends. I'll be glad to help you out and support you in your weight loss efforts.0 -
I have done WW in the past. I am having better results with this site. I only did it online so I can't speak of the meetings but for tracking this works just as well. I did not like that the plan changes every year or two. I would get comfortable with one method and then the company would endorse a whole new plan. I eat a lot of the foods that were low and no points on WW so that helps keep the calories down. I also eat some but not all my activity calories like WW allowed.0
