I want my MTV......(back!)
So i was reading the book "I want my MTV: the uncensored story of the music video" by Craig Marks and brings me back to when MTV first came out. Do you remember the first day MTV came out? Or do you remember when they would make announcements on when to expect a video premiere? we would stay up all night waiting. Remember when all you wanted was your MTV? I know we were glued to the tv from that day on....it was nothing but MTV 24/7. Video killed the radio star (literally)! ahhh how i miss watching MTV. Like the bowling for soup song "1985" says..."when did reality become tv?" I stick to VH1 classic in the mornings and especially on the weekends just to watch my favorite videos. I will have VH1 classic on blast while cooking or cleaning.
i want to hear your memories of when MTV came out. what did you think of it? or what are some of the first videos you remember MTV aired.

Video Killed the Radio Star.
I remember the debut video - I watched it. I remember when they actually played nothing but music videos and had VJs.
Not anymore...and I haven't watched it in years.
Wait...isn't Ridiculousness on MTV? If it is then I guess I do watch it on occasion.0 -
I most definitely am a product of the MTV generation..when a full story could be told in 4 minutes....I blame it for my ADD. AND MISS IT!!!!!!! I don't think I remember the last time I switched on MTV their programming is SAD!0

YouTube only works if you know what to look for. The beauty of MTV is that it just brought them to you, like a radio just delivers music. I really miss it. But, it had to evolve or die.
I remember its first airing and all the original VJ's.
Headbangers Ball was my favorite.0 -
I remember when "Thriller" was released and it was a HUGE event.
And I thought Martha Quinn was the coolest ever!0 -

Here Comes the Rain Again - the Eurythmics
She's a Beauty - The Tubes
She Blinded Me W/ Science - Thomas Dolby
I remember seeing the Sugarcubes on 120 Minutes - the Sunday night 'alternative' show on MTV.
(This is the band w/ Bjork before her solo career.)0 -
We get Paladia on DirecTV.
Guess what? They play vidoes and show concerts!
Really!
MTV is brain rotting crud.0 -
I LOVE VH1 Classic. I only wish I still had that channel.
The women my age (early 20's) who watch Teen Mom and Jersey Shore need to be euthanized.0 -

And that Adam Curry guy's hair. It kinda had a personality all its own!0 -
Nah... When I came into this world MTV was already on and playing... and by the time I was old enough to watch it it already had non-music video shows on it... like Daria and the Real World... and Jenny McCarthy was a staple.0

Club MTV and Yo MTV Raps! Then there is Remote Control....(God Bless Ken Ober r.i.p.) Those were the days when they actually played music videos and not the CRAP that is on there now. AND IT IS CRAP!!!!!!!!!! :mad:0

I don't remember back that far to when MTV started as I was just a baby...however, through the 90's I loved my music videos. In Canada we had MuchMusic... Now though both stations play nothing but stupid shows....0

MTV now stands for Maternity TV, not music...
Sad. I really REALLY would LOVE to have music videos/music based shows (Say What Karaoke, anyone?)0 -
Pat Benatar, The Police, Dire Straits. I used to love watching videos for hours on end after school. Now all they have is pregnant teenagers and those idiots from Jersey Shore! Pathetic!0

I remember thinking at the time that MTV and CNN 24 hour news was the greatest advents of my generation. now I feel that MTV and the 24 hour news cycle are the bane of modern existence. Curse you double edged sword that is life!!!
