I like him and his playing and he overcame a huge difficulty, but it is patently ridiculous to include him in the top 100 drummers, let alone top 10.

I'm not super knowledgeable about a bunch of drummers but he was awesome!

actually, he sucked and a session drummer played on all their records.

So two people responded to this post and you disagreed and insulted both of us. Why even ask?

Uh Manson used a drum machine on portrait of an american family & eat me drink me, all cd's in between were ginger fish & chris vrenna stepped in for him for about a year while he was injured but that was just on tour.. Get your facts straight before you say someone "sucks" & throw out incorrect statements about them..Also I saw him play on the "Rape of the World" Manson tour in 2008 & he definilty didn't 'suck'!

I had assumed a list of different people opinions on 'best' drummers, not other people say things & you the all knowing music god shoot them down.. But whatever, its the internet everyone needs somewhere to act like they are the best & brightest..

    5. John Bonham
    6. Mike Portnoy

Also, I'd throw in Dave Grohl. I know he's playing guitar while fronting the Foo Fighters but the guy can play drums.

They're my 2 fav's.. I can't name 10 drummers to tell you the truth... There's a lot of great drum SONGS that I remember, but to list 10 bands, I can't do it.

Gotta check this video out. Great stuff from the Professor at the Buddy Rich Memorial Concert in 1991 with the Buddy Rich Orchestra.

Three drummers are on my a-list. Reason is, they didn't play the drums, they drove the songs. They were Bonham, Moon, and Mitch Mitchell.

I understand the Neil Peart thing, but I'm just not a fan. Technically, he's outstanding. But, I don't think he has soul. Just my opinion.

SInce it was all electronics and drum machines he is off the list. Had he not lost the arm, he was on his way to being a great, great drummer. His work on High n Dry, Pyromania and On Through the Night belies his years.

Neal Peart is great and all--but take away his drum solos and time signatures and ask him to play a thick, rockin', hard hittin groove, and frankly he is a bit atrocious.

Side note: I DO like Rush. A lot. Truth is truth however.

    Oh my list:
John Bonham and the rest of the list are his disciples and admirers anyway.
