I have heard that the hula hoop is a very good cardio workout. Has anyone got on with them, and if so which is the best one to get regarding the weight etc. I have heard that you can get bruised.

  • I've been using a cheep ($5) water filled one from walmart and FINALLY ordered a real one. The water filled one did bruise one of my hips. From what I've found, heavy is easier to keep up, but lighter makes you have to move faster. There is a woman on etsy who makes hoops and answers questions about what would work best for you: hoopmamas

Hooping is a great workout! I suggest trying a class near you! It's easier to learn with a teacher and then practice on your own. You can also try put an adult hoop and find your size thst way. Try hooping.org to find other hoopers near you. Hoopnotica in LA makes great hoops but so do most hoop teachers.

Unfortunately there are no hooping classes anywhere near me. I live in the country and my nearest town is 8 miles away and even that is quite small. I have seen demo's on utube though. I read that you can burn loads of calories, me think I am going to have to get one. I keep putting it off as I was unsure. I did stupidly buy a small one in Tesco's but it is impossible to even get it going. Do you think that I should get a 40" weighted, though I can do without the bruising.

My mom swears that it works. She grew up in the 50's and hula hooped all the time and stayed 96 lbs almost her entire life.

Love it! Haven't been to a hooping (?) class before, but it's good cardio, balance, endurance, ab, and leg work out if you just are doing it the old fashioned way!
