Hi. I am Jennifer. I am 33 and very very overweight. I have 200 lbs to lose. Yep that is a huge number. I have been heavy since I was 5. Have tried to diet, failed repeatedly. I have two children who are 6 and 4. I am going to school to get my bachelor's in psychology and then on to my master's.

I have fought my weight for so long I had become pretty disillusioned about how really big I had become. I was with my kids dad for five years and have been single now almost three years. He was unfortunately emotionally and mentally abusive. So that being my first real relationship only compounded my worth issues. I was determined however to get out there and live life. I started online dating and it was ok. I met a guy a couple of weeks ago. Seemed to hit it off. He liked bigger women. Then I thought I should send him a full body pic of me.....well that went over like a lead balloon. He informed I was bigger than what he is attracted to but would like to stay friends.

Ouch that hurt....but as much as the truth hurts it heals too. I had not realized I had gotten as big as I am. So I resolved right there in that minute to never have to be turned down like that again...well at least not for being a size 26 anyway. I realized I was taking times away from my kids, and adding a burden to them in my later years if I did not do something NOW. that was last Wednesday. I got back on MFP (joined 9 months ago half heartedly). Started walking and rallied my friends behind me.

Something snapped in my brain. I want this, this being; a healthy body and healthy life more than I want junk food. I have a whole life ahead of me. One filled with activity and life. I have no illusions this will be easy. But nothing in life worth having is easy. So my goal is 200lbs gone by the time I graduate in 2014.

I know where you're coming from. I never saw myself as being as overweight as I am. I have 100 pounds to lose. I still don't till I look at pictures of me (OHHH IS THAT ME!). Yes it is. Time to realize that I'm only getting bigger if I continue to eat the way I am and not be responsible. This program really works if you are determined. Let's do it together. Offering all the support I can and taking all the support I can get. Here's to Us - we can do it!

You can do this! Two years to lose 200 lbs will be a challenge (that's assuming you graduate in April 2014, not later in the year) but with dedication you can do this! Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like the support!

That's the spirit! I like the passion you're coming at this with, just be careful not to flare up and burn out as so many do. Gentle, lifelong changes ftw!

That's me as well... I look in the mirror and think it's not that bad...but it is. My family is suffering for it too. I want to grow old as healthy as possible! We can do it!

  • Hi Jennifer,

I have over 100lbs to lose. I feel your pain, I know where you are coming from but you CAN do this. Feel free to add me as a friend. I started off close to 300lbs and have dropped over 50lbs since January. See, it's possible. A lot of hard work but for someone pursuing advanced education and a single Mom, you are no stranger to hard work!

    Wishing you great success.

You know I've said to soo many people that unless you really want to do it, you aren't going to succeed. Something in you has to make that decision that enough is enough. I've done that myself recently and it does work. You look at things through a new lens and it's amazing.

I'm with you on the marriage that was destructive - I got to my heaviest thanks to that marriage. Now I'm determined to never see those numbers again. It took me 5.5 years after leaving the marriage to make that decision but I'm there now.

Good luck and feel free to add me.

Yes that is my biggest fear is to flare up and burn out. I am trying to take small steps and remind myself everyday it is about changing my life not a temporary diet.
