Thanks for posting. I know some people get hung up on the idea that ground turkey is so much better for you than ground beef, but there are different kinds of both. you need to look at the numbers.0

I like the taste of Ground Hamburger over Ground Turkey...
I just choose Turkey over Red Meat because of these reasons:
For me..not speaking for others
Red meat takes longer for me to digest
Red meat seems to slow down my metabolism.
I recover faster when eating Turkey
Now I have read that red meat over long term is bad and does increase chances of colon cancer....0 -
I grind my own turkey breast and mix it with a panade of bread soaked in milk.0

Look like a wash to me!
To me as well.0 -
That's interesting!! Totally helped me0

The ground chicken in my freezer:
93/7
130 calories
3g fat
85g sodium
24g protein
I use all three. It depends on what is on sale.0 -
I enjoy them both just depends on what i am wanting. If i am craving a steak than the hamburger meat wins. If i want something more light feeling in my stomach the turkey wins. And most the time whichever one i have in the freezer wins lol0

Wow, thanks for posting! I was thinking of trying ground turkey, thinking it would be better for me and my fam, but really it isn't! I may still try it one day, just to say I did:flowerforyou:0

Good point never thought of that maybe i will try ground turkey not giving up steak though:-)0

Just another example of why portion control is important, so I can have beef.0

I love, love ground turkey!!! I agree it seems to digest mush faster than red meat! I do like to change from chicken, fish and red meat. You just have to read and pay attention to ingredients on packing to make sure your getting the best cut/type of meats. I find the leaner the better!0 -
the leanest my grocery store carries is only 90% lean though... i still eat it some. its just not quite as good for me im sure.0
-
you should also compare olive oil and canola oil, not much of a difference there also..0

I love ground beef
I usually use ground turkey
and I hear ground chicken is even better !!
I love red meat -- I try to only eat every other week. I figure, as long as I have it in moderation - I'm going for beef
Its whats for dinner !!0 -

I live in a small town and we have Krogers, Walmart and Food City. The only one that carries the leanest hamburger meat is Walmart, have u looked there? they sell out fast since they are the only carrier here.0 -
I use both- don't really notice a huge difference between the two taste-wise. Especially since we use them for burgers (I put a few crackers, some garlic, onion, an egg, and seasoning in the patty mix).
*Edited to add the egg.0 -
I like to mix them both... it's good!0
-
If I go with Turkey, I always do ground turkey breast, which has like no fat and even higher in protein. Also, ground chicken breast is good! Otherwise I like ground sirloin - it's so yummy!0
-
I like to mix them both... it's good!
I have never thought of that0 -

Makes GREAT meatballs! (Baked, of course!)0 -

^^^ Yeah, what this guy said!!!0 -
Great post!
My personal problem is that if I'm going for taste, I'm definitely not eating 96% lean ground beef. It's 80/20 for flavor (mmmm) and there's a bigger diff in the nutrition!
Most people actually think my from scratch spaghetti sauce tastes better with ground turkey!!!! :-)0 -
I love the taste of the leanest hamburger meat. It is very tasty, and we can not tell a difference in it versus the cheapest one. We seem to get more meat with the leanest and of course not all that fat.0

Have you tried the local butchers? They will grind the meat for you to your specifications! Even in small towns!! Sometimes especially in small towns! :-) Trust me when I say it will be a TON healthier and tastier than the varieties at Walmart.0 -
I think beef taste better. But I buy turkey because the leaner meat is cheaper than beef.0
-
I get ground veal. It has great flavor and texture. Not really sure about the nutrition stats though.0

Are you talking about Ground Turkey or Ground Turkey Breast? There is a big difference between the two and I just looked at my package of Lean Ground Turkey Breast and the numbers are significantly lower than yours.0 -

I have not will have to give some a call and see. I don't think they give the nutritional values though so that would be hard to know what it is.0 -
