Stronglifts 5x5 - but very similar to Starting Strength - google them!

2 sets of workouts - 5 sets, 5 reps (except for deadlifts)

    Workout A
    Squats 5x5
    Bench Press 5x5
    Pendlay Rows 5x5

    Workout B
    Squats 5x5
    Overhead Press 5x5
    Deadlift 1x5

The idea is that you start out at 45lbs (for ladies except deadlift...start heavier) and increase 5lbs each workout. It's myofibril hypertrophy to build strength. You won't get bulky because of you don't have as much testosterone as a man, nor are you eating to bulk. You're building muscle as efficiently as possible so you can burn more at rest.

If you are joining a gym I would recommend getting on bodybuilding.com and looking up a few workout routine and learn some of the exercises ince you are new. It is NOT a site geared just for bodybuilders and has a lot of info, also look at http://www.muscleandstrength.com/ and for the hubby http://anabolicminds.com Good luck and have FUN!
