When to weigh yourself?

Hi everybody!
I have been weighing myself at the end of the day. Yesterday when I weighed myself at around 10 pm, the scale read 173. But my friend told me that you should weigh yourself in the morning before you do anything -- don't use the bathroom, don't shower, don't do anything, and that's your true weight. So I weighed myself as soon as I got up this morning, and the scale read 166. I don't know if this is right or if my scale is out of whack. When do you weigh yourself? Do you weigh yourself wearing your regular clothes, in your underwear, or in the buff?

I weigh myself in the morning with just jammies and underwear.0

Shouldn't really matter when you weigh yourself as long as you weigh yourself at around the same point in time every day. Right when I wake up is generally the easiest, for me. Clearly it would be a bad idea to compare weights on one day in the morning, and the next day immediately after eating a big dinner. Long story short, whenever is easiest for you to do regularly.0

You are suppose to weigh yourself when you first wake up . Your friend is right , except I like to pee before ! LOL Just so you know you gain a few pounds through out the day after you eat so that's not your true weight . My moms personal trainer told her the only time you should weigh yourself is when you first wake up . But at the same time your body shouldn't fluctuate more than 3-4 pounds within the day . So I think that your scale could be wrong ... Not quiet sure with that one .0

How do you figure this? If I have a big dinner + a few glasses of water, I could easily weigh 5 or 6 pounds more than I did 30 minutes previously. Easily.0 -
I always weigh myself first thing in the morning in my bra and underwear and after i pee!0

The key is more to be consistent about when & how you weight yourself to be able to track change. Me, weigh in the morning after my shower and after using the bathroom facilities if necessary and only wearing my glasses to read the screen on the scale. Hopefully I'm wearing a smile when I step off the scale!0 -
def in the morning after the loo, make your coffee tea or whatever then weigh yourself befor you drink it. when you first wake up your a dead weight but after a few mins its the best weight youl get.0

Yea, definitely in the morning (post poop!) at night you are holding all the food and liquid you consumed. way to go with all the correct advice MFP!0

I weigh myself every morning after i use the restroom naked. I find that having clothing on makes you gain un nessacarry weight0

I weigh myself daily soon as I get out of bed and at the end of the week take an average... I have lost 35 kg in 4 months..0

Just be consistent same time same clothes (or lack of), same place. Most people aim for the morning as it's easier to be consistent.0

It doesn't matter as long as you are consistent. Your lowest weight of the day is normally in the morning, after going to the bathroom (#1 and #2 if possible), and before eating. That's when I like to do my weigh in (naked). I usually weigh myself most mornings but only log my weight once a week (on Mondays).0

I like to weigh myself after breakfast, dressed in pants, undies and a shirt, no shoes or sweater or keys in my pocket, not even a lipstick. Last night I couldn't wait till this morning to weigh myself because I had such a good week I wanted to enter my weight on MFP.
So I weighed myself last night before bed and entered the weight for this week last night. Okay, patience I'm working on.0 -
Get up, start coffee, empty bladder & colon, weigh, drink coffee, shower, breakfast (on rest days) or train then breakfast. The routine is so ingrained I don't even need to wake up.0

Agreed. There will still be some fluctuations, especially we ladies, but the most accurate will be nude in the morning, after the toilet but before the coffee.0 -

Shouldn't really matter when you weigh yourself as long as you weigh yourself at around the same point in time every day. Right when I wake up is generally the easiest, for me. Clearly it would be a bad idea to compare weights on one day in the morning, and the next day immediately after eating a big dinner. Long story short, whenever is easiest for you to do regularly.

However, most people find it more rewarding to weigh in the morning. You've fasted all night (while sleeping), and thus you are probably at your lowest weight for the day.

I weigh myself every morning, though as long as you are consistent about the time of day you weigh yourself, it really won't matter.0

Once a week, Friday morning, before I step into the shower. I find that even the day to day changes drive me bonkers, so once a week evens out those ups and downs.0

Weight – So many things can affect weight, because of this it shouldn’t be the only way you track your progress. Things to keep in mind:
:drinker: Always use the same scale – Different scales can show different weights. You will get the most accurate number for tracking when using the same scale.
:drinker: Don’t move the scale – Carpet, uneven flooring, different types of flooring…can all affect the weight on the scale. So when you weigh, you want it to be approximately the same spot for the most accurate number for tracking.
:drinker: 3500 calories – To gain 1lb of fat you need to be over maintenance by 3500 calories.
:drinker: Muscle Repair – Muscles will hold onto water to repair, because of this it is not uncommon to see a gain for a little while after a workout. This weight comes right back off when they are done repairing.
:drinker: Sodium – Can cause you to retain water. This can also be amplified if you don’t drink enough to flush it out of your system. This is also another reason for temporary weight gain.
:drinker: Water – Not drinking enough water can actually cause you to retain water. Recommended amount is 8 cups or 64oz. I drink 64 oz to 128 oz of water a day. It doesn’t have to be plain water either. I like to flavor mine with crystal light or tea.
:drinker: Time of day – Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day. So for the most accurate tracking, you want to weigh at around the same time.
:drinker: Frequency – This is up to you, but if small fluctuations bother you than only weigh once a week or less.
:drinker: Lightest Weight – Will be naked, first thing in the morning, after using the bathroom
:drinker: Multiple times a Day – Don’t Do It. As I said before, your weight will fluctuate throughout the day. What you eat, what you’re wearing, ect will all affect weight.
:drinker: Clothes – If you weigh with clothing on, keep in mind that the scale will show your weight plus the weight of your clothes. (Jeans are heavy)
:drinker: TOM - A lot of women will retain water around their TOM, but its just temporary and will go away.0 -
I not only weigh myself at the same time of day (morning after getting ready and going to the bathroom etc) wearing the same clothes (my uniform), but I always use the same scale. Scales can really be different and if you are accurately trying to track loss, use the same scale.
I also weight myself only once a week. For me, this is vital. Otherwise I find myself getting consumed in the day to day fluctuations.0 -

For the ladies who are post-menopausal and no longer get that TOM, if you still have your ovaries, you are still producing small amounts of the hormones that can cause cyclic water retention. It is not nearly as much as it is when you are still fertile and get less and less as you get older (I get a pound or two pretty much monthly, but not the 4 pounds or so I used to add)0
