I read this at the PERFECT time! I am now NOT going to weigh today and focus on how my body feels rather than the number on the stupid scale! :flowerforyou: Keep up the awesome work!
  • Great Job! So exciting it is so important to remember that when you are taking care of your body properly the number on the scale is not the most important thing...muscle weighs more than fat and if you are exercising you are adding muscle, that means you may not be losing pounds, but you are getting thinner still!! way to go!!

Congratulations!! I know the feeling for the smaller clothes, but I have to thank you for the reminder of the scale. I just restarted my mission after 1 1/2 yrs of an exercise hiatus....although all my clothes still fit, some of the pants were getting "snug".

Thank you again you just inspired me as I will remember it when I go to workout tonight. :flowerforyou:

That is an awesome NSV! I too am 40 and have gained and lost the same 20 pounds in the last few years. This year, I am going to break that cycle!! I refuse to buy clothes in another size! I told myself that if I have to get a size bigger…. It will be at the goodwill… not buying ‘new’ fat clothes!! :noway:

Last year, I was working out a ton (training for Sprint Tri’s) and the scale was barely creeping down…. I was sooo frustrated. I was gaining muscle, but I don’t think I was actually eating enough to fuel my body for the amount of working out I was doing, so the weight loss was slow. Still, I was noticeably leaner and got many compliments on my ‘weight loss’

This year, I am also taking body fat measurements (got a pinch tester on e bay cheap) and I will be tracking that for progress even if the scale isn’t showing progress. A lot of bodybuilders are technically overweight by scale (height/weight) and BMI measurements, but are extremely low in body fat…..

    Great job!!

So totally true! I am a scale watcher too. but recently I had the same experience. I bought the cutest pair of jean peddle pushers and have not been able to fit into them for almost a year. i was going out of town last weekend and wanted to wear them so i decided to try them on....they fit!! i was amazed, but had onlu lost like 3 pounds!! so its true, scale may not say what you want, but its also how you feel too!!!!

It's alway a great feeling when you can get into "those" clothes that made their way into the don't fit pile...I love it!~ I am obsessed with the scale and try not to be, but it is easier said than done. Great job on your weight loss though!!

I couldn't agree more. The scale is only one part of the big picture. I'm working on getting Body Fat and BMI to a healthy level and the scale is only part of what is getting me there.

    Congratulations on your NSV !!!

Excellent job. Now burn your fat clothes and never go back (or donate them...). I find that to be a good motivation to stay small :)

    Congrats. Very nice.

Weight is just about useless. I wrote about this on my blog:

Weight is a useless number. And so is thinking you are getting skinnier. Getting a tape measure and body fat caliper proofs that you are in fact reaching your goal and not "thinking" that you are.

I have them in big garbage bags right now. The plan is to hire a seamstress to cut them up and make me "new" clothes out of them once I hit my goal weight.

thank you so much for this post! I am obsessed with what the scale says and always have been! Ive started lifting weights and am known to be kind of impatient waiting to see results. jsut wish I knew more of what weight routines would work for me best. I cant afford a personal trainer so I jsut go off of routines I find.

Thanks for posting this. I need to see it today. I'm going to put my scale on the top shelf of my closet and only get it down once a month when I take my measurements.

I needed that too. The scales can be a huge de-motivator.

Funny 'cause recently I got down to a total loss of 20 lbs and ended up going back to only 15 lbs lost a few weeks later. I put on a pair of shorts last night that are usually tight on me, ones that even at 20 lbs down were still snug and last night they fit me perfectly! It's not all about the scale sometimes. :] Must stay motivated! Congrats btw!

Glad I found this post today. I have not seen the scale move this week. My orginal weigh in day if the week if Friday. So tomorrow is weigh in day. This morning I weighed and the scale had not moved. I thought this week was a pretty good week for eating and exercising. Maybe I need to try on some old clothes or take some measurements. Thanks for posting.

I strongly recommend to everyone to take measurements! Just make sure you are doing it at the same place on your body so you can have an accurate record. The easiest way is to measure up from the knee so you know the point on your thigh, measure down from your navel so you know the point on your hips, and measure up from the elbow so you know the right point on your arm.

To everyone who posted here... Thank you for your kind and supportive words!! I hope you have even better successes in your journey. :drinker:

    Very true! Thanks for posting!

I too recently fit into my "thin" jeans that I originally wore when I was about 15lbs lighter than I am now.

Congrats! Now throw those "fat" suits away!

Yup me too. I was wearing a pair of jeans 10 pounds ago, that last time I was my current weight, I couldn't wear. :)
