Healthy and filling snacks to get through a work day?

I always find myself having low energy while at work. I'm looking for a filling healthy snack to stave off hunger until lunch and/or dinner when I get home. Any suggestions?

Somehow I find that nuts are way too high in calories. Like, this bag of walnuts I looked at early had nearly 200 calories for 1/4 of a cup! That's crazy!

an apple (or any fruit) with 2 tablespoons of PB or a string cheese
    popcorn (no butter/light salt)
oatmeal - either flavored or plain with some fruit/cinnamon/honey
cheerios (no milk, I just fill a coffee cup 2/3 and munch on them)
one small container of yoghurt - greek if possible

Basically you want something that is either high in fiber and/or protein so it keeps you full longer. I re-fill my desk every 2-3 weeks to make sure I always have something available if I get hungry.

Try almonds. They are lower in calories than walnuts and lower in fat too. Anything that has high protein will keep you fuller longer. I'm not sure if you like fish, but some small 'snack size' fish like sardines have high protein and Omega-3 that will keep you going.

I second the oatmeal!! I stash packets in my desk and when I have a mid-afternoon snack attack, I make one of those! They're super yummy and satisfy my sweet tooth without being high in calories :)
  • I would rather just feast at breakfast than have a snack between breakfast and lunch, but that's just me. My go to snack is a can of sardines though, protein + omega 3 fats? Om nom nom.

I avoided almonds like the plague because of the fat content...however, now I add them in as a snack with something like an apple or carrots. They are a healthy fat and they keep me full longer. I do the plain unsalted ones. If I am hungry for chocolate I do the dark cocoa covered ones or the cinnamon and brown sugar ones for something sweet.

I also do hummus and wasa crackers with a little thing of yogurt.
