So, I'm very close to my goal weight...Only about 5 more lbs. to go! yay! I plan on continuing MFP for a while at least afterwards, and I was wondering if I should eat the full 2000 calories a day recommended on here for me to maintain. I've heard of people setting it for .5lbs of weight loss and then eating back exercise calories. I also plan on starting more heavy lifting in the near future, since I'm getting a weight bench on Monday and will be finally getting a gym membership when my spring classes are over(If that matters at all). I'm worried that I'll gain it all back if 2000 cals is too much. Any advice would be helpful!

Double bump. I agree it's a good question. I'm close to maintenance also, would be good to know how to effectively maintain.

You should keep an eye on your fitness levels and your calories and I suggest not eating your calories back as you're not burning as many as you think. Make adjustments accordingly. I think the suggestion to set the app as if you wanted to lose 0.5 pounds a week is a good one.

I can't comment on the 2,000 estimate MFP gave you. The one it gives me has always been a little too high.

Figure out how to estimate your body fat %: Scale, calipers, other methods.

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS. You must feel good.

I gradually increased my calories to maintenance...I wouldn't recommend going from say 1400 to 1900 overnight. I'd do it maybe 50 calories daily per week, keep increasing until you're not losing any more weight. That's the only way to figure out your maintenance, trial and error. It takes some time.
