Discouraged a little...

Kind of getting discouraged... I see people that I haven't seen in awhile and no one has noticed or mentioned my weightloss. I am assuming it is because I wear nomex or because I weighed so much, I am going to have to lose alot more. :-( 305 to 258 to me seem like A WHOLE BUNCH! Anyone else have this problem? My goal weight is 150, but I figured people could tell by now.

could be jealousy some people are mean - youve done so so well girl and have certainly encouraged me so THANK YOU SO MUCH and good luck with the rest of your jouney!0

Great job!
Keep in mind that people may have noticed, but are hesitant to say anything for a whole bunch of different reasons.
Also, are you still wearing your "fat" clothes that hid your body?0 -
stick with it . You will notice suddenly that everyone will notice.0

You've done soooo well! I'm sure they noticed, but perhaps they felt it rude to comment? Don't be dis-heartened, keep up the great work! :flowerforyou:0

I'm sure they've noticed and are just afraid to say anything. People are afraid of putting their foot in their mouths and weight can be a touchy subject.
You're doing great! Keep up the good work and the compliments will start flowing so much they'll get embarrassing0 -
Wow. Thanks everyone. :-) You guys made me feel better and havent even seen me before or after! lmao0

I wear nomex usually because I work at a plant 90% of the time. They are the ones that dont say anything. Outisde work, I just wear "smaller" jeans and regular tshirts that I wore before I lost weight. I don't like clingy clothes!0
-
Not everyone wants people to comment on their weight loss. I don't, so I wouldn't say anything to anyone else UNLESS I knew they were happy for others to comment on their weight loss.0
-
I'm proud of you and your hard work!0

It could also be your clothes. If you've lost that much you are way overdue for some new clothes. New, smaller clothes will help draw attention to your weight loss.0

Great job! Keep up the good work!!!
I think people are often afraid to say anything. I've heard through the grapevine that people think I'm sick and are afraid to ask. Why would someone losing weight automatically mean that they are ill???
Just remember you are doing this for you and not for anyone else!!! The feeling of accomplishment needs to come from within!!!0 -
as some of the people have said sometimes people are not sure what to say I had a neighbor and very good friend we had been next door for over 20 years one day said " are you ok I see you losing weight and was afraid you might be sick. They were afraid I might have cancer and didnt know what to say after we talked they always comment now on " good work" keep it up etc. Also our perception on how we look isnt always the sameas other people see us I joined a fitness class after losing almost 90 pounds and thought I looked pretty lean but at over 265 was still pretty heavy0

I know it makes you feel good and rewarded when people notice and congratulate you, and we all can't help but bask in it if it happens, but just try to remember that in the end it doesn't matter what they think. It is all about how you feel (healthier, energized, lighter), and how you feel about yourself. The people around you often see such a gradual change that they honestly might not take notice, especially if clothing helps conceal it. Don't let it get you down if they don't.
Recently I gained back about 30-40 lbs, and in front of this guy I hired to wash my mother's car for mother's day, my mother goes "What happened to all that weight you lost? It looks like you gained it all back." -_-;; Great time to discuss that, mom! And other people have asked me if I lost weight...when I'd been gaining weight. Kinda awkward. So sometimes it is better if they just say nothing at all...0 -
you've done great work. Sometimes people just don't know what to say0

In my case, I lost 65 lbs and nobody noticed. BUT, when I moved to 67 lbs..after a couple week plateau, everyone noticed. My size got smaller without losing weight and all of a sudden everyone kept commenting. I was 301 when I started, so in my opinion, people just don't notice on bigger people, cause we have farther to go. 20 lbs off doesn't look the same on us as it does on someone who weighs 150.
Just my opinion/experience.0 -
I have lost 85 pounds in 14 months. Some people started to notice after about 25 pounds, but it really wasn't until about 70 where all of a sudden everybody at the same time started noticing. I thought, "Gee it took them long enough, I must have been an elephant." LOL But what I have come to realize is that even though it is nice to be acknowledged for losing and sometimes hurtful when people don't you can't worry or obsess about that. You are doing it for you and to be healthier and to look better. You need to impress yourself and not even think about what others are seeing. I don't even think about it or care anymore if people say anything to me about it. It is much easier and less stressful that way. Congrats on your 47 pounds!!!!!0

AWESOME JOB!!0

We have almost the same exact stats and I I'm not sure people haven't really noticed either. Partly I think its my frame and how I carry weight. I know I am losing and feeling better and that's what matters. You are doing great, keep it up.0
-
I'm certain they noticed. There may be a variety of reasons they may not feel comfortable commenting. At one of my old jobs, I got asked if I lost because I was trying to or if I was sick. I didn't look sickly or anything, but they really weren't sure.0

First, way to go on your success! AMAZING! second, people do get jealous, and it makes so sense in the end because if they are unhappy, they have the same shot as anyone else to make the change in their lives. But if they don't give you a compliment, it's for the best. I had a member of my family give me a compliment that sounded so insincere. I just looked at her funny and walked away. I wasn't going to let her make me feel like my accomplishments were anything short of amazing!0

I didn't tell any of my husband's family that I was working on losing weight. We started in July and no one noticed until January after about 65 or so lbs. It really helped me to have a starting picture (very few pictures of me because I hate having my pic taken) and then comparing it to a more recent one my hubby took. I realized I could tell a huge difference so either they were just really unobservant or didn't want to say anything in case I really wasn't trying to lose weight.0

The most important thing we can do is love and congratulate ourselves. It has to be about us, not about what other people see or think. At first people said things to me, but it's stopped now. once in a while someone will say something like "that colour looks really good on you" and I think it's probably not the colour but that I've lost weight. Sometimes I'm not sure people know what is different, They'll say "nice haircut" when I don't have a new haircut. haha. And it's true that a lot of people are so conscious these days of body issues that they are afraid to say anything. I prefer if people don't say anything actually. But it looks like you are doing great and I'll bet you look FANTASTIC! Hang in there0

I think it's a combination of weirdness...
My husband lost 40 pounds, and I had lost 49 when we were at a party with tons of people we hadn't seen in months...and everyone said he looked great...like he lost weight...blah blah blah...and I am standing RIGHT THERE...wanting to yell...HEY I lost MORE! LOL
Anyway, our theory is...he went from overweight to great shape...he is at his goal weight, but I went from really fat to kinda fat. People just aren't SURE I lost weight...and who want's to get into a weight conversation with a WOMAN?? LOL I think people are more afraid they are wrong if they say something to a girl....guys are totally fine with "NOPE didn't lose a thing!" if someone questioned them...women are scary. Haha!
Also, I think it has more to do with a percentage of loss...5%, even 10% is kinda hard to see on a really heavy person...20%...you see that! I am just a hair from 20% and people have just begun to say something. I really think people hesitate to ask or comment until they are SURE!0 -
Awesome loss... keep up the good work. :flowerforyou:0
-
maybe they feel like they may offend you in some way if they make any comment about your weight... but I wouldnt let it discourage you.. if you have lost all the weight you have already then you know you are doing an awesome job! so keep up the good work and people will begin to notice0

I LOVE THIS!!!! :-)0 -
Just remember you are doing this for you, not us. Plus, most of us don't get to read the message boards often (that is my case any way). I am proud of you. You are doing great and are about 1/3 to your goal. Something to be having a celery and carrot party about. Keep up the stride, and smile.0

I've noticed something similar... people seem to be trying to figure out what it is that looks better, but they can't tell. (I can't blame them, sometimes I do the same about others' appearance.) So, I get complimented on new glasses when I get my hair cut, on my hair when I'm wearing contacts, asked if it's a new sweater when it's ancient...
And like others have said, sometimes people are scared because of previous embarrassments. We all know the classic... "when are you due?" but there are people who lost weight because of illness or worries, some people who are just shy about their weight loss (and scared because they've had trouble keeping it off before) or the times you guess someone lost weight, but they're just wearing old, baggy, comfortable clothes, so what was meant as a compliment just makes them feel unhappy about what they think of as their "slob" clothes. One good thing about this... their lack of awareness means you aren't boring people by endlessly talking about your efforts to lose weight. ;-)0
