Hoarding Calories

I have a problem with hoarding calories. I get so afraid that I will not have enough for dinner that I don't eat very much throughout the day and then have alot of calories left over at night which isn't a good time to be eating them.
Do you guys create meal plans to make sure it is a little more balanced?

I tend to enter in my food ahead of time. My weeks are pretty stable and I eat pretty much the same stuff daily so it's pretty predictable.
Try entering what you plan on having the night before and then you can adjust as needed.
Edit: typo0 -
I fill out my food diary right away in the morning before breakfast. That way I'll know for sure I'll have enough calories for each meal, and that I am hitting all my goals for the day.0

i try to create a meal plan.. i think about what i want for dinner.. and i work that in first. taking those calories into account.. then i plan my breakfast, lunch and snacks. sometimes i save too many for dinner because i change my mind. LOL but i end up finding a way to eat them. iwould say don't save more than 600 .. for dinner. try to stay in that range. how many calories are you eating a day anyways?0

I religiously pack my lunch and have breakfast at home. While I eat breakfast, I log both of those meals. Then I can see exactly how many calories I have left for dinner and adjust from there!0

I inputted my information and it says I have a goal of 2,340 calories a day. I have eaten breakfast and lunch and still have 1470 calories left. I feel like that is wayyy too many. Right?
I was on WW forever so I'm used to a points system instead of counting calories. I always did the same thing with those points too. I am so unorganized, I think I just need to get some meal plan sheets and start planning out my life! LOL.0 -
the diet I loosely follow allows around 200 cals for breakfast, 300 cals for lunch and 400 for dinner, plus 3/4 pint of milk.
Obviously everything's interchangeable and there's room for 2 power snacks of around 50 cals. Following this to the calorie is only advised for 2 weeks as it's very low cal so after this you can up your cals to whatever's right for you.
I find using this as a guide rarely leaves me feeling hungry and just watch the fat content of everything including the snacks!
Just saw your post! Obviously you'd need to add quite a few cals to this by adding for example orange juice at breakfast, may be having 100/150 cal healthy snacks, bit of extra rice, pasta to meals, have a healthy dessert (and the odd treat) etc to up your cals0 -

When you eat breakfast, input your breakfast, your planned lunch, plus two snacks (if you like to snack). Then you'll know for sure how many calories you have for dinner. That's what I do. While it's not perfect, it works pretty well for me. Plus if I make sure to have my snacks, I'm not starving by the time dinner comes around. Granted, you will have to do what works for you. It took me a few weeks of figuring out what worked for me before it became a habit.0 -
I would suggest eating several healthy snacks. I usually have two to three snacks throughout the day such as an apple, cutie tangerines, activia yogurt and or an adkins snack bar. Then I'm not dying of hunger by dinner and have a nice amount of calories left for dinner. I'm on a 1200 calorie daily goal, and just recently started eating back my exercise calories so I would net to 1200 calories. I felt guilty at first eating more than 1200 calories, but since I was netting less than 1200 with exercise, my body seemed to have stalled on the weight loss. I have started eating back my exercise calories to net to 1200 and have started seeing a downward movement again on the scale. If you don't have time to preplan all your meals, at least pre plan some daily snacks and enter your meals if you can on your mobile app. I find that helps when I am on the go. Good luck0

how many points were you on ww.. i am using wendy plan and i caculate that i am around 31 points. no less than29 at this time. they have theconversion and it converts to an average of 1700 calories a day. if you aren't zizagging. if you are then it works out like that you ahve some low numbers 1500, then mid 16, 1700, 1800 and 2250 (as a cheat day)0

Yes. I'm mind-numbingly dull. I'm quite happy eating pretty much the same thing for breakfast and lunch every day. I usually enter breakfast and lunch first thing, then adapt as I go along. That way, I know first thing in the morning how many calories I have left for supper and (if possible) a little dessert.0 -

On the new points system I had 51 or 52 pts a day.0 -

Why don't you think eating at night is a good time? I eat 2/3 of my calories between 6:30 and 9:30 pm, then march to bed while finishing my last bite. Unless you have digestive or blood sugar issues, there's no reason not to eat at night if you want to.

You want to be careful with eating most of your calories at night. If you don't eat enough throughout the day, your body will store the calories you eat at night because it doesn't think it's going to get enough nutrients during the day.0 -

Myth. I lost 140 lbs in 7 months eating like this.

I guess it is an old wives tale Which is good for me, because I am a night owl.0 -
There's nothing wrong with eating at night, medical conditions aside. The concept of late night eating = fat gain is entirely false.0

It's fine.0 -

Agreed. My opinion is that that belief comes from people who eat all their calories during the day, then continue eating at night putting them over. Hence they gain weight due to excess calories, not the time of the day.

I snack more during the day so I have less at night.0

Just make sure that all cats are accounted for, and not getting squished under any hoarded calories.0

i used to do the same thing and i found out i stalled on weight loss quickly. I planned out my dinner first before i did the rest of my day. I try to use 400 for each meal and any exercise points i use toward dinner or a snack. gl!0

^^This....Exactly what I do!! :flowerforyou:0 -
You can eat your calories whenever you want. Eating late won't slow down your weight loss. Overeating or (significantly) under-eating will.
Many people eat all of their daily calories in the eight hours before they go to bed and do quite well (Google "intermittent fasting")0 -

All my Cats are accounted for....<purrrrrr> Sometimes autocorrect can be funny...My thoughts went immediately to the lack of cats at the local Chinese restaurant. wink

I take my goal (2500) and divide it into four equal meals (morning, afternoon, evening, and night) and leave about 300ish for snacks/overage.
It's not uncommon for me to eat over 1000 calories near midnight. The only reason I try to wait at least an hour or more before heading to bed is to reduce risk of GERD... Nothing to do with fat loss.0 -

I just try to eat balanced at all meals, roughly around 400 calories per breakfast/lunch and dinner and then 200 in snacks0 -
I always allow myself 500 to 600 cals for dinner. I also tend to preplan what I'm having for dinner and enter into my diary in the morning. This way I have an idea of how many cals I can have for each meal.0
