Hi,

I have a big dog that needs to move as much as I do (he also has about 10lbs to lose), both of us as starting so no running but we would like to add to our walks to make sure we are optimizing our outings.

Anyone has suggestions?

how about you go somewhere he can be off leash and bring a ball

Toss ball and as the dog is fetching, do some kind of circuit training, lunges, burpees, jumping jacks.

My dog and I do this. I throw it and she chases and I try to fit in as many sprints/jacks/burpees as possible until she gets back. Of course, if she happens to see a squirrel, I could be doing burpees for a reallllly long time.

During the summer it's very difficult to have access to an off leash area (we don't have one specific for dogs but use the park next to my home, but it's a soccer and baseball park, so it's in great demand during summer) but I can try and do my walks either late at night during the week and realy early during the weekends.

    Thanks

I take my 1 year old husky mix jogging 3 times a week. It keeps her calm in the house and makes me get off my butt! You could do something like couch to 5 k together since it starts slow and builds endurance over time. I lost 15 lbs just walking our frist dog. We'd do 2-4 miles per day, spread out over the day depending on my work schedule.

My biggest recommendation is a gentle leader. It's a head collar that prevents them from pulling if they see a bird or squirrel or something else they want to chase, and doesn't choke them. One of my dogs walks/runs on a leash very well but the puppy.... she's another very hyperactive story. You can get them at any pet supply store or online. Also make sure you have water when it gets hot out, it sounds dumb but dogs will run themselves to death if they're having a good time and don't drink enough in the heat.

I got an adult razor scooter and take both of my dogs for a scoot every morning!
