question for ladies

with summer-like weather here for the most part, and summer itself fast approaching, I am faced once again with my yearly 'dilemma'.. the dreaded bra. I would love to get several of those either tank or cami style tops, but finding them with a built in bra (other than a shelf bra) is nearly impossible, especially in plus sizes. I want something that I can wear by itself or to layer, without having to wear an additional bra. The shelf bras are difficult not only because of the support factor, but they tend to be flimsy and show through, if you catch my drift. Has anyone out there found one they like, or have any ideas? Thanks!

Figured I would help keep your thread alive...but as you am see from my profile picture I don't have the issue of needing to wear a bra in the summer heat...my issue is finding one I can fill out . Good luck!!0

Wish I could help, but I always have to wear a bra even with the shelf bras...ain't gonna happen without one!! Wish I could free-boob it, but it's just not in the cards for me!0

I've never been able to get away with going brales. I have an awesome bra that has interchangeable straps, and I use the clear ones if I'm wearing a shirt with spaghetti straps or something similar.0

There are people who can wear built-in bras, and there are people who can't.
As a plus-size woman, I honestly believe we are generally in the "can't" category. They will just never be able to offer the type of support we need.0 -
I would go to figleaves and purchase a very good straplesspbra. I'm a 36DDD currently and I am not a fan of the shirt shelf bra.0

My daughter and I are both bigger chested with 40 DD and 42 DDD we wear good strapless bras from Victorias and cut out the worthless shelf thing and wear it that way. Seems to work for us0

If you leave the shelf in, it will help keep the strapless bra up and give you a little added lift.0 -
I was given an Athleta catalog...the gal who gave it to me said they have clothing with a 'real' built in bra in them. Maybe you could look into them? Currently I cannot afford to buy an outfit from them, (prices are $50+ for a top) so I can't give any input.
I have to wear a bra under the tanks that have shelf bras built in. I don't think there is much help for ladies who are bigger on top to go bra-less. I'm not even plus sized, I just don't want saggy boobs when I'm older, can't stand not having any support anyway.0 -
Bravissimo (avaiable online) sell strappy vest tops with real bras built in. They are not cheap (about £35) but they fit well, are great for layering and wash well. I buy a black and a white every spring and they last all summer (then I wear them under shirts/sweaters in winter when they are past their best.0

i don't have much experience with a large bust (i'm only a B ) but just a thought - i know victoria's secret has tanks with built in bras (not just shelf bras). they are pricey, but i think that's expected if you want something that fits right and doesn't make you have a uniboob or something! haha. good luck!0

I can never go braless. You could always try a bra that the straps can be switched up for different types of shirts.0

My wife uses tape to prevent pokies in the summer. Keeps them depilated too.0
