Hi I think they say a gram of protein for every pound of lean muscle mass. Your gym might be able to tell you what your muscle mass is. I wouldn't say 130 is too much though. My lean body mass is low at 90lb but I'm trying to get 120+ as I'm strength training. Adding in protein shakes to help get there.

I'd say its too little especially if you're trying to maintain or build muscle.

Shoot for 1g per lean muscle you have for starters.

Unless you have kidney problems, you likely won't get too much protein. I had 131g today and I'm a vegetarian female.

    Lean Mass = Weight - Weight * (BF% / 100)

If you want to find out your lean body mass you can get a rough estimate by using the body fat calculators on this website:

    http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/

You will find that the results differ using the three calculators. You can get a better estimate by using callipers or having your body fat tested at your local gym.

Edit: I did the other one...and it seems much more accurate lol

What are your goals? For the average active male 130 is enough.

If my lean muscle mass is 100 and I eat 100 g of protein will this help build more lean muscle.

I don't want to bulk up, but I want to gain lean muscle.

I'm just getting started with strength training.
