Hey everyone! I just started back up on MFP yesterday, but so far so good. And I know 2 days isn't a long time but I'm proud of myself. So YAY ME!

Anyway!! Today I took this kickboxing class and it was 60 min. But the last 15-20 we just did abs, so I searched for kickboxing and this option came up with karate, kick boxing, etc, and I picked it. I put in 40 minutes and it came out 499 calories! OKAY WHOA! I'm thinking I didn't burn THAT many, it was like semi intense (like i broke a sweat but I didn't collapse after it). So i changed it down to 200 calories. Which is about 100 calories every 20 minutes, how does that sound? Any one else do a kickboxing class and have to guestimate their numbers?

Thanks guys!

Use a heart rate monitor to see what your body does burn in that hour. It surely could be right!!!

IMO, the estimated exercise numbers on this site are high. I recommend a HR monitor as well. It will depend on your current weight so it is hard to estimate. I have a Body Bugg and it does a great job at estimation.
  • I do martial arts every night for one hour and I take what MFP gives me for it because I keep trying to get the calorie count with my HRM but it doesn't stay in place very well, it keeps sliding all over. We also aren't able to wear the watch in uniform but I tie it to the tie in my pants and it falls out down my pant leg!!
I beep like a bomb while we are doing the warm ups and that is a little embarrassing too, if you find a way to keep one on and get an accurate count I would sure like to know...

Like everyone says, the HRM is the best to use. But I DID do kickboxing class this past Saturday, where we started out with pushups, had the cardio portion in the middle and did ab work and leg lifts at the end and I burned about 700 calories(according to my HRM), so don't cheat yourself. MFP may be right!!
