I should try it for a few weeks and see how I do with it..

I am not vegan nor am I vegetarian, however, I have late been trying to reduce the amount of meats and what not that I eat and focus on the fruits and veggies.

That brings me to my question for you all... Where do you find recipes for things? Or do you generally just go raw? I'd love to know because I am VERY interested in slowly working my way there!:) Thank you!!!

I was vegan for about a year but started eating meat and dairy again a few weeks ago. I had started craving fish and eggs and just gave in. I do want to keep my diet plant based and possibly go back to vegan at least most of the time. I'm trying to lose 15lbs and I like to keep my protein at 20-30%. I'd love to see what you guys are eating.

    Hello there,
I've been vegan for 2 and a half years, and am still very happy with my choice for both ethical and health reasons, and like many it was a gradual process to get here, but not that hard in the grand scheme of things!

I'm always happy to add more vegan and veggie friends :) add me add me! :)

For those people who've mentioned that they find it hard to move away from meat and dairy, it might be that you have a particular appreciation for umami, and making sure to have that in your vegan dishes may scratch the itch, read more here: http://www.theveganrd.com/2012/04/is-umami-a-secret-ingredient-of-vegan-activism.html

I also find that sometimes I crave 'chewy' or 'chargrilled' which I associated with meat when I was an omnivore, and for a while when I got these cravings I thought it was a meat urge, but finding something vegan that hit those spots immediately stopped the craving.
As for recipies and inspiration there are quite a few good blogs out there:
    http://veganyumyum.com/
    http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/
    http://veganfeastkitchen.blogspot.com.au/
    http://vegandietguy.com/

Actually did I say quite a few? There are HUNDREDS (which I find actually makes things a bit harder! It can be overwhelming!)

Kinda related to that I have a bit of trouble logging my food in the app as I eat quite a range of things and often cooked from scratch which can be tedious to add in all the correct amounts (if I even know them!), so I often end up with similar sounding foods in my diary, just so I have an idea of what I ate rather than a absolutely correct record.

Anyway, it's always lovely to hear from people open to this way of eating :)

Ha ha. There's so much to choose from! For proteins, you can eat all kinds of nuts, beans and legumes. Plus you'll want your whole grains, so pasta, rice, cereal, tortillas, etc. You'll need calcium, too, so trade your dairy milk for soy, almond, coconut or hemp milk, which are fortified with all kinds of goodies. Load up on fruits and veggies. And of course there's always your fake meats like tofu and seitan (gluten). There's all kinds of great stuff to choose from in the frozen section, or if you're feeling adventurous you can try and make it yourself. If you like cooking, I'd highly recommend Veganomicon. Best vegan cookbook ever! :)

Does the Veganomicon cookbook have recipes that use processed foods, white flour and sugar? I'm looking for vegan recipes that use whole foods. Thanks!
