Wow! Your loss is amazing! Great work. It shows real commitment to weight loss and health.
I am 42. 5'8". I started out at 200 pounds. Now I am 163! So good. My goal is 150 pounds. Once I reach my goal I may go unto 155 pounds.
I understand maintenance is harder then loss. So the real work is still ahead of me. I must admit I am very nervous about maintenance. But I so do not want to be overweight ever again.0 -
Firstly, um CONGRATS for losing 112 lbs! That's on heckuva accomplishment, and if your doc can't appreciate it, then tell him to kiss your skinny gorgeous booty.
Secondly, I think 165 is perfectly healthy for 5'8" According to the BMI charts, 164.4 is right at the top of the healthy range, so I really don't see if you're comfortable where you are why you should stress about losing more.
Lastly, YOU ARE AWESOME.

Oh yes. I'm 5'8", but I'm 28. I'm shooting for the 150-155 range with 18-20% body fat. My first big goal is to get under 165 though to be healthy again. I'm only 13 lbs away from first goal! *fingers crossed*0 -
You look amazing and thinner than I do! I am 45 years old, medium bone to big, 5'7 3/4" and I weigh 157. I am trying to get to 155lb. But not because of my Dr., just because I think I would look better at that weight. I have been trying to lose 11.8 lbs since October 2011 and it has been so slow!! My body just HANGS onto it.
It seems when you have less to lose that it is more difficult.0 -
It seems when you have less to lose that it is more difficult.
Seems that way to me also. Mine has slowed considerably.0 -

Just a thought re: the doctor... I am not a super picky, difficult to please person. However, I have learned to trust my instincts w/ medical professionals. If I feel that we're not working on the same page, that usually proves to be the case as times goes on. It's much easier (although still a pain) to switch now, than after you're embedded in his/her practice.
When I take my kids to the pediatrician, my husband always asks me if they told me the kids were "the cutest ever". It's a joke, but seriously, if doctor's cant enjoy our kids, can't rejoice with our *112 pound weight loss*!!! , then something is MISSING! You want someone who is on your side.0 -
I am 5'9' and 47yrs I managed about 10yrs ago to get down to 152lbs. I was bony! I couldn't sleep comfortably because the bones in my knees and hips were too prominent. when you are that low in weight it is almost impossible to maintain that weight status. Maintenance is a lot harder than losing . I always felt very comfortable around the 165-175lbs mark. Your Dr should be praising your accomplishments, not telling you to lose to the point that you are setting yourself up for failure. Be proud of what you have done for yourself. You look happy and fit. So why worry about what a so called specialist has to say to the contrary. If your doctor looks anything like my Doc, his could stand to lose a pound or fifty himself!0

My goal weight is 175. I fit your profile of 5'9" 40ish. I started my journey at 283 in January of this year and I have shed 26 some pounds. My 3 girlfriends and I have a wager to see who can loose the most weight by July. Money..big motivator! We have agreed to exercise together and to support each other, either via email, in person or phone calls. Yes, we have all had LIFE interrupt our journey in one way or another. Thankfully we have kept the goal of weight loss in mind. But I digress....
One of my "opponents" had to go to the doctor for a medical reason and he told her that she was morbidly obese. I was so angry that he made my beautiful friend feel like she was a walking whale! I am happy to say she took this in stride and didn't resort to shopping or eating to satisfy her anxieties about his comments.
Hang in there. Change your program and celebrate all victories because they will add up. I have many more pounds to go and intend on conquering them one pound at at time! Bless You!0 -
Can't thank you all enough.0
