So I bought some... just drank some. What are the claims of green tea? Why is it supposed to be so good for you?

This is exactly what I came on here to find out too. I read that it makes you feel fuller.. not sure if thats right or not though! I want to know if it will aid weight-loss or if it's just a healthy alternative to other hot drinks!0

I've read that it speeds up your metabolism, allowing your body to burn fat faster. 3 cups a day is apparently enough to make a difference, but I'm not sure how true that is. Would love to hear from anyone who has been using it regularly0

Antioxidants.
It's healthy to drink, but I don't like the taste, so I stick to other teas.0 -
Water makes you feel fuller.
Which is what 98% of tea is (as long as you don't pack other crap in it)
It has caffein which speeds up metabolism....but you have to be a dedicated drinker of it.
I am talking like 6-10cups to get enough caffein to do what it says it does.
Its good for you regardless. drink it.0 -
Antioxidants and caffeine. Helps contribute to thermogenesis which is laymans terms for fat burning.0

Green tea is not an herbal tea. Teas classified as "herbal" are not, technically, tea.
Black tea is also not an herbal tea.0 -
cos it tastes horrible
so if something tastes horrible you have to give it some unjustifiable mystique to make it sell??0 -

It's actually kind of important to know the difference. Herbal teas (any "tea" that isn't actually made from the tea leaf) can interfere with certain medications and cause other problems if you have a medical condition or are taking other herbs or supplements.
We call it "herbal tea" when it isn't actually tea. The black, green, red and white teas are all made from the tea leaf at various stages of its development, kind of like the different colored peppers all come from the same plant.0 -

okay I see now, thanks. I'm reading up on some things now.0 -
Green tea has been proven time and time again to speed up metabolism - it's something like 3 cups a day can help speed up your metabolism by up to 5%. It's also full of antioxidants which helps eradicate free radicals - these damage your cells so green tea helps protect your body. White tea has even more antioxidants, but has a slightly duller taste on its own. Both are very good for your skin. And I think they're lower in caffeine than black tea, so it's not the caffeine that speeds up metabolism (in that case surely one could just drink coffee?)0
