If the shoe fits...

So an awkward side effect of weight loss is that my feet have shrunk. I have a wonderful shoe collection; we're very close and I can tell my shoes are as unhappy as I am that they just aren't compatible with my feet anymore.

Anyone else had this?

Very expensive to replace the whole collection... this is YEARS worth.... I went to try on shoes today and am a difficult size too - 6.5! Most shoes in the UK won't do a half size grrrr...

And I had to laugh at the woman behind the counter, who thought that (a) I should just buy a 7 and wear socks, and (b) I should add an insole to my existing shoes. I am walking out of them! How is raising my foot by half a centimetre going to stop that?

Omg me too!!! I was a 4 or 5, now I'm a 2 or 3. I can never ever find shoes anymore and I hate that I can't fit all my heels, that I spend tons on.

It actually works. I use them with my shoes, which are getting bigger with the weight loss, and they now fit nicely. The logic is, the top part of the shoes are slightly narrower, so making your feet a little bit above the original base shifts your shoe a little bit narrower, smaller.

Maybe try getting some heel grips? Little sticky things for on the back of the heel so you don't slip out. This has worked ok for me, I feel your pain, I have shoes that are a 5 but now am getting into 3s in some shops!

    Kids shoes FTW!

Kinda hoping this happens to me! hate being a UK size 8!
I was going to suggest the heel grips and leather insoles from Clarks, they do a really good job with boosting you a size / or a half... which may mean you can buy 7's if you can't get 6.5's?

Also try New Look (if the shop doesn't have half sizes the website often does, Barrat's online or dependant on the style you want, I think M&S do half sizes and they're getting more of a range.

but if you're a hard core shoeaholic with the funds I think the designer ones are gonna be where you struggle... I myself dream of the day that I can afford expensive shoes, and my only problem will be getting my huge feet into those gorgeous little Choo's or Louboutins!!!

  • You could (sadly) sell your shoes on ebay (my friend did this and made a bit even on ones which were quite worn!!) and then treat your self to a nice new pair or two (yippee new shoes!!)

Or you could perservere and wear them anyway, like I do. Pay no heed to the howls of laughter when you fall out of them, flat on your face, it's so worth it... :blushing:

Raising your heel will work because you have an improvement in gravity, it's working with your foot, on a smaller base and pulling downwards rather than a wider base distribution. I know what I mean, anyway. I can wear a more close-fitting shoe in a heel but not in flats for this very reason.

New shoes... new shoes... how those two little words can raise the spirits. I've just remembered the 'Brantano' advert with the 'slingback synapse' that all women have (apparently).... a part of the brain shaped like a s-h-o-e... beyond amazing...

Not sure if it would work but you could try buying some foam or memory foam and use double-sided sticky tape to stick a layer into the heel area.

My problem has always been that I am a half size (UK 6.5 like you) and despite my weight I have super narrow feet. I'm resigned to the fact that I always have to buy shoes that lace up or have a strap and tend to get most day-to-day shoes from Marks and Spencer as they do half sizes.

I don't know if you've tried them but Boden shoes are really quite narrow.

Oooh, I haven't. Have loads of their clothes for work but never tried the shoes. Thanks for the tip.
