G'day!

I've just started P90X, as I think I'll work with it well, but apparently I need around 300g protein/day for the first phase.

Does this sound right??

This is determined according to the nutrition level the program recommends I follow which requires a minimum 2,400 cal/day. I then put the suggested % of carbs, protiens (50%) and fats for this phase into my fitness pal calculator and it comes up with 300g.

Any other folks out there on a raw food/vego diet who have similar requirements? Would love to hear some suggestions on how to meet that insanely high protein need without using powders!

p90x is a bit flawed. And I don't think you need 50% protein.

There is always nothing wrong with using whey powder. Get the majority of your protein from whole foods, but supplement your diet with whey if you need the extra.

Lots of meat. Cottage cheese. Lots of eggs.

It's definitely doable. I used to come in around 250 grams of protein per day. Then I realized going over that was just costing me a ton of money.

Thanks mate! I agree, you can't follow the program religiously, just have to work out what's right for you. I've decided I'll drop it down to 200g for now. But still difficult to to meet that on a diet of raw fruit and veg. I prefer not to eat animal products so that rules out all that good stuff you mentioned!

There are only so many flax seeds and spirulina a guy can eat in the space of a day!
  • Hemp hearts are good too, and there are a few vegan protein powders that are hemp/pea/brown rice/spirulina based. It'll be tough to get that much in though.

I'm vegan and by no means a rawie and I struggled to get 110g in unless I went for a soy protein powder. I can't stomach the non-soy brands.
