not emotionally eating = loneliness

As I continue on in the journey to loose weight...I realize how much I emotionally eat.
I walk back and forth from the kitchen to other rooms... I open the fridge and stare and stare and stare some more- the same things goes with the cupboards... I feel like something is missing.
Eating became something I did to past time; a "friend" to go to that made me feel better for a few minutes, and something to do to take my mind off of things.
Now that I have been fighting the urges to not binge- I feel... lonely... like something is missing... my "go-to" friend is no longer there for me... now what do I do?
ugh!
how did I get to this point!?!?!?
=(

Go for a walk instead of walking to the kitchen, replace your eating friend with a fitness one. If you get out and do something you may find yourself happier and involved with things that others may be doing causing you to find people friends too.0

instead of walking to the kitchen to stare because you are bored, do some workout moves. Do squats (good for your butt), do handstands against the wall (good for your arms), get on MFP, do stretches, go for a walk, paint your nails! How about a hobby besides working out? What about doing crosswords, sewing, jewelry making, etc? What about trying a new class at a gym? what about finding a friend or someone who can support you in your downtime such as going for a walk, etc. Pinterest will keep me entertained for hours, so you can try that too!
Make your new friend your diet and exercise program. Put your down time into bettering yourself. Use this time to search for fitness quotes to motivate you, read weight loss success stories.
Just stay motivated. if you do go for the kitchen for something, make it be ice water! You can do this. It is hard but it will be worth it.

Such good - and true - responses... I do the exact same thing as the OP and relate perfectly so I'd do well to follow the advice above myself... And many times I have and so I know the suggestions work! Now if I could only fight the emotional eating when I have absolutely no motivation to help myself (which has been te case a lot lately!0

i also wrote little post-it notes with words of encouragement... seems like motivation comes and goes for everyone...maybe the key is remember our accomplishments and pressing forward... and changing the way we think to new positive thoughts.0
