Dave Hurban, a tattoo artists and piercer from New Jersey, has gone to some pretty extreme lengths to keep his iPod Nano Touch stuck to his wrist.
Making use of his tradecraft, David pierced his wrist and then surgically implanted four magnets beneath the skin in order to adhere devices, like his iPod, to his flesh.

He’ll never have to worry about a clip, or a wrist or armband again. Like the Marvel superhero Magneto, David has got a lot of magnetic attraction now.

David coined the term ‘iDermal’ for his skin and magnet creation. Apparently the magnets are strong enough to keep the iPad Nano in place during a run in the park, or for a workout in the local gym. The face of the device can display a watch when not being used for music, so in effect, David has designed a kind of “strapless watch.”

If you really hate straps, then you can head down to your local piercing and tattoo parlor, and ask them if this can be done to you too. The magnets David used are called micro-dermal anchors. He aligned them in his skin to match the magnets in the iPod Nano Touch. These tiny pieces of metal are fairly common in the piercing community, and shouldn’t be too hard for you to find. If in doubt, you can always have your own piercing specialist watch David’s viral video several times (if they can stomach it). Good luck!"

    I didn't watch the video but I read about this a couple days ago. All I could think of was "Wow, he REALLY loves his iPod" LOL

    I am not sure if I'm that motivated to have this particular body modification done. Scratch that, I'm definitely NOT that motivated. HA!!

    Gotta give him props for being creative though!

    No way, not for me. I scar really easily. Interesting way to utilize his craft though. What will he do when Apple redeigns the ipod, have his magnet implants moved to accomodate the new design? Cannot imagine having a magnet, or several for that matter, within my body - wonder how stong the magnets must be to hold on to an ipod throughout a run? Just imagine going through a jewelery box and pulling your hand away with a bunch of metal stuck to your wrist. Or curling your hair, that could pose a threat if the magnets are super strong, LOL

    BUT....

    There is nothing I love that much.

    Well first, he's nutts. Secondly, the title is misleading because he did not surgically attach his iPod, he surgically attached magnets. I didn't watch the video because I think stuff like that is kind of morbid, but I think piercings of any kind are, other than a small one in the ears. People who do have serious self-esteem problems as if to say, "Hey, look at me. I can put a hole in my body and stick something in it".

    I was kinda expecting to see an iPod sewed into the skin but hey

    I agree with kacee. I have piercings not for attention, but because I enjoy them and like the look of them (among other things). Regarding the article, I doubt that I would have that done. I'm not really up for having magnets under my skin (even though the end result would be cool/interesting). Plus I've never really wanted dermals. I love looking at them on others, but if I got one I'd want to get the corset look on my back and I'm afraid that they would get caught on things. It's not a good enough reason to some, especially since I have a couple piercings that technically could catch on things already, but at this point it's causing me to hold off. Who knows what the future holds though.
